Former US VP Dick Cheney Dead at 84

November 6, 2025

By Alex Miller

Former US Vice President Richard “Dick” Cheney passed away at his home in Jackson Hole, Wyoming on 3 November 2025, of complications from pneumonia and vascular disease.  Cheney’s political career extended decades, having served as White House Chief-of-Staff for Gerald Ford in the 1970s; US Representative for Wyoming in the 1980s; Defense Secretary for George H. W. Bush in the 1990s; and VP for George W. Bush in the 2000s.  A controversial figure loathed by progressives, Cheney was seen as a major promotor of the Iraq War and the War on Terror, and the possible power behind the throne during Dubya’s presidency.

Born 30 January 1941 (1), the Sun (10 Aquarius) opposed (180 degrees) Pluto (3 Leo) shows an undeniable drive for power (Pluto-ruled); while a T-Square (2) with a Jupiter/Saturn pairing (7 & 8 Taurus) highlights conservative (Saturn) politics (Jupiter) as the means to attain that goal.  A trine (120 degrees) from Pluto to asteroid Whitehouse (1 Sagittarius) suggests work for successive US administrations (Whitehouse) as the surest, easiest (trine) route to the desired outcome.

President Gerald Ford was the main initial facilitator of Cheney’s political rise, elevating him at just age 33 to his Chief-of-Staff, arguably the most powerful post in Washington DC after the president himself.  This vital turning point is seen in the chart as asteroid Ford (16 Gemini) at station (3), indicating major impact for persons of that name on Cheney’s biography.  His dominance in conservative circles was cemented by the Bushes, father and son, who employed him in responsible positions in their respective administrations.  Asteroid Busch (21 Scorpio, alternate spelling) opposes the Midheaven (27 Taurus), ruling career, status and reputation, while asteroid George (16 Taurus) squares the Sun, indicating professional and personal bonds with the Bush dynasty.

Cheney’s perspective on Iraq as a threat that needed to be dealt with militarily is depicted by asteroid Baghdad (11 Sagittarius), named for Iraq’s capital, conjoined Mars (17 Sagittarius), ruling war, the military and armed conflict, also exactly inconjunct (150 degrees) asteroid Bellona (11 Taurus), named for the Roman goddess of war.

Lynne Cheney (nee Vincent), his wife of 61 years, was his partner in power politics, as seen by asteroid Lynn (9 Leo, alternate spelling) conjunct Pluto and opposed the Sun, indicating someone with a prime role to play in his life.  Asteroid Vincent (5 Gemini) embedded at station underscores Lynne’s centrality to Cheney’s bio; its square to asteroid Juno (4 Virgo) on the 2 Virgo Ascendant describes their wedded status (Juno, Roman goddess of marriage) and her important role in crafting his public image (Ascendant).

When Dick Cheney passed away on November 3rd, the Sun (11 Scorpio) conjoined asteroid Richard (10 Scorpio) and asteroid Atropos (3 Scorpio), spotlighting (Sun) Cheney (Richard) one last time, at his death (Atropos, named for the mythic Greek Fate who severs the thread of life at death).  A Solar Eclipse (29 Virgo) in September opposed natal asteroid Richard (28 Pisces), setting the stage for his demise.  Transit Saturn, ancient lord of death (25 Pisces) conjoined both Richard and the natal Moon (22 Pisces), ruling health generally.

Notes: (1) Richard Cheney born 30 January 1941, 7:30 PM CST, Lincoln, Nebraska, USA, Rodden Rating AA.

(2) A T-Square is a dynamic pattern composed of two or more planets in opposition (180 degrees), each squared (90 degrees) a third.  It represents stress and conflict, with the fulcrum point (at the square) offering a possibility of resolution.

(3) Stations are periods when, from our perspective on Earth, a planet appears to slow its movement, come to a standstill, and reverse course.  This is an optical illusion created by the triangulation between the sun, Earth, and any third celestial body; astrologically, it represents a focusing of the energies associated with that point, and often coincides with major life events or a radical recalibration of how that point has functioned previously.
