Trump eyes Venezuela and its president, Maduro

Americans can’t help but be nervous about President Trump’s intentions with regards to the country of Venezuela and its president, Nicolás Maduro. For months, Trump has been threatening the country and President Maduro in particular, accusing him of being a central figure in a narco-terrorist drug cartel and therefore responsible for drugs sent to the U.S. from Venezuela. Because Trump has made these accusations, he appears to be planning to do more than blow up speed boats in the Caribbean that he claims are full of cartel drug smugglers.(1)

In the last week, this tension between the two countries became more fraught when Trump sent the U.S.S. Gerald R. Ford into the region. This aircraft carrier is the world’s largest, and it puts significant pressure on Maduro just by its presence.

While this is the outward appearance of things, what is the inner truth? With astrology we have access to the symbolic version of what is driving people under the surface, which while not detailed, is still significant and useful.

For example, by looking at the birth charts of Trump(2) and Maduro,(3) one sees they are natural adversaries, in that Maduro’s Sun (1 Sagittarius) and Mercury (0 Sagittarius) are closely square (90 degrees; challenging) Trump’s Ascendant (29 Leo 55, just minutes from 0 Virgo), meaning that there’s something about Maduro personally, what he says and who he is, that bothers Trump. And for Maduro, Trump’s Mars (26 Leo) is square Maduro’s Ascendant (23 Taurus), so similarly he feels Trump’s actions, especially military ones, angry outbursts, and threats (all Mars related) are cause for alarm. Exacerbating this, Trump’s Saturn (23 Cancer) is square Maduro’s Moon (23 Libra), which translates into Trump using his administration, his role as president (all Saturn related) to severely impact Maduro’s home, his country (Moon). Trump has been open about his displeasure and the solutions he wants to implement. What’s interesting is, Maduro’s Saturn (6 Aquarius) is semisquare (45 degrees) Trump’s Moon (21 Sagittarius) and sesquiquadrate (135 degrees) his Sun (22 Gemini). These minor square aspects (“half” a square) are sometimes dismissed as not important, but they can irritate and cause trouble all the same. It’s as if Trump doesn’t realize (or care) that Maduro is also a threat to Trump (Sun represents his life, stature, and reputation, and the Moon, his home but also emotions, the feelings of his family and supporters).

Right now, both of these leaders feel external pressures as they size each other up, guessing what the other’s next move is. Transiting Uranus (29 Scorpio), symbolic of strategic thinking and huddling with advisers for consensus, is square Trump’s Ascendant, and opposite (180 degrees; partnering but sometimes polarizing) Maduro’s Sun/Mercury. Both of these men are probably not listening to their experts; they may actually think they are smarter than their advisers and each other. Dwarf Planet Sedna (0 Gemini) is right next to Uranus, and represents determination, sticking to ones guns, but if the plan is unwise, one’s actions can result in deep regret. Who is most aware of the probable outcome? Maduro, with Sedna/Uranus opposite his Sun/Mercury, probably feels the target on his back. With the opposition, one can have illumination. But with Sedna/Uranus square Trump’s Ascendant (and Mars), he is anxious to act, with a minimum of reflection.

There is another source of pressure on Trump’s Ascendant, besides Maduro’s persona or the Uranus/Sedna duo symbolic of advisers stressing caution. The U.S. Congress and the American people have increasingly made releasing files that the government has on Trump’s old friend, convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, a top priority. This coming Tuesday, a key vote on the documents will be held, as transiting Sun (26 Scorpio) and Mercury Retrograde(4) (0 Sagittarius) square Trump’s Ascendant/Mars, with no supportive planets to counteract that. Maduro, however, has Jupiter (25 Cancer) and Saturn (25 Pisces) both sextile (60 degrees; giving aid, support) his Ascendant. Even with the military might of the world’s largest battleship off his shores, Maduro has something that Trump lacks.

This is also apparent when you consult secondary progression, which uses the transiting pattern of the days after one’s birth, as if they are years lived. Casting those charts for these two presidents, you see that Maduro’s progressed Sun (5 Aquarius) is opposite p. dwarf planet Makemake (5 Leo), which can represent a sudden surprise attack, or signal that one’s adversary is unpredictable, a genius, but also a possible madman. Maduro’s p. Sun has help, with p. Moon (9 Aquarius) sextile p. Eris (9 Aries). Eris represents other people in general and those who are dismissed as unimportant, in particular. Maduro has been reaching out to the Venezuelan people and asking them to reaffirm their loyalty to their country, and by extension, to him.

Trump’s progression tells a different story. His p. Sun (8 Virgo) is semisquare p. Venus and p. Jupiter (both 25 Libra), reminiscent of his preoccupation with lots (Jupiter) of money (Venus), like the tariffs, his crypto hoard, his defunding efforts, and $1B lawsuits against media outfits, to augment his personal fortune or fund his tax cuts for the rich. His p. Moon (21 Scorpio), sesquiquadrate Eris (6 Aries), isn’t helpful like Maduro’s, as Trump’s presidential approval (what others – Eris – think of him) has ebbed to its lowest. His p. Moon is also aligned in a “Finger of God” that consists of an inconjunct (150 degrees; disconnected, always adjusting) p. Uranus and p. Orcus (both 21 Gemini), his wavering in his plans and strategy (Uranus) and using lawfare (Orcus: order, perfectionist) to get his way, and inconjunct to p. Sedna (22 Aries), his dogged persistence but when negative, Sedna can lapse into despair.

It looks like Maduro might make out better if Trump makes his big move on Maduro’s home turf. That would create a big distraction from Trump’s unraveling scandal at home, and many think that’s all this is.(5) Trump told the press today that he’s already made up his mind but resisted broaching his decision. Very likely he’s decided to keep Maduro and the world on edge while he mulls over his unenviable position.
