2026 Winter Olympics Opens in Milan
By Alex Miller
The Lede: Opening ceremonies for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, Italy commence at 8 PM CET on 6 February 2026, with the Sun (17 Aquarius) conjoined Mars (11 Aquarius). Aquarius is a Sign of community, friendship and interconnection, the Sun shows prominence, being in the spotlight, and pulling focus or attention. Mars rules sports, athletes, and competition, a perfect celestial set-up for the next 17 days as the games play out.
In Brief: The modern Olympics were recreated in the 1890s, based on the original ancient Greek panhellenic athletic contests, in an effort to promote international peace, friendship and understanding through sports. This dynamic is reflected in the current games with Venus (25 Aquarius), also conjoined the Sun, with Venus ruling all these areas.
As the games progress, the Sun, just on the verge of coming into square (90 degrees) with Uranus (27 Taurus) as the competition begins, will move more fully into the aspect, which is exact on February 15th. Expect an increase in surprises, shocks and unexpected outcomes as they near perfection; Uranus is the king of the upset, so look for major shakeups. Unfortunately, Uranus also rules accidents and controversy, so athletes will be at greater risk of personal injury as the event matures, and in judged competitions such as figure skating, not everyone may see eye-to-eye as to the outcomes. Uranus is further associated with both record-breaking and speed, so timed competitions, like luge or speed skating, may set world records.
Deep Dive: Asteroid Milani (25 Aquarius) is our cosmic stand-in for the host city of Milan (Milano in Italian). Its conjunction with both Venus and Mercury (29 Aquarius) signals the games’ eternal popularity (Venus) and newsworthiness (Mercury), while a broader conjunction with the Sun shows Milan in the global spotlight (Sun) for the duration of the games. Visibility (Sun) for the event is likely to increase until these points come into exact conjunction on the 20th, just two days before the closing ceremonies.

There are two asteroids that relate directly to the games: asteroid Olympiada was named for the competition (otherwise known as Olympiads), and asteroid Olympus is named for the Greek mountain, home of the gods, after which the ancient games were named.
Asteroid Olympiada (12 Cancer) conjoins Jupiter (16 Cancer), arbiter of fame and celebrity, and distributor of awards and prizes, an apt placement if ever there was one! This pair is inconjunct (150 degrees) the Sun, and forms a Yod (1) pattern, AKA “Finger of Destiny,” with the Ascendant for the opening ceremonies (15 Virgo), conjoining asteroid TRIUMF (17 Virgo), also inconjunct the Sun.
The Yod is a “fated” pattern, symbolizing a meeting with one’s destiny, a feeling surely most competitors will share as they struggle for the gold medal. TRIUMF is named for an acronym of a Canadian science research facility, but acts reliably as its English language homophone, “triumph,” meaning an unqualified success. Having TRIUMF on the Ascendant of the Olympics, which represents its public face, is an elegant celestial endorsement of each participant’s goal. It could also refer to these games coming off without a hitch, an exemplary performance by organizers that does its host city proud. The Sign of Virgo on the Ascendant is a nod to the grinding daily routine of practice and working toward perfection.
Asteroid Olympus (2 Aries) conjoins both Neptune (0 Aries) and Saturn (29 Pisces). Neptune rules hopes and dreams, but also disappointment and disillusion, something many will need to grapple with. Saturn is hard work, plain and simple: the persistence, perseverance, and structure needed to excel, as well as symbolizing peer recognition and career advancement. But there’s also an element of loss and hardship, having to deal with the harsh reality of failure.
Victory, of course, is what it’s all about. And that’s reflected in asteroid Victoria (13 Taurus), named for the Roman goddess of victory, which squares the Sun. Asteroid Nike (24 Scorpio), named for Victoria’s Greek precursor, is also widely squared the Sun, but more prominently conjoined asteroid Winters (28 Scorpio), bringing us right back to where we started, as the 2026 Winter Games unfold.
Notes: (1) A Yod is composed of two points at is base, sextile (60 degrees) from each other, each inconjunct (150 degrees) a third point on the Apex. Also termed a Finger of Destiny, Finger of God, or Finger of Fate, it represents a “fated” situation or circumstance, something the individual is predestined to accomplish, or an issue with karmic implications. This can also indicate a hidden gift or talent, something apparently God-given or innate.
