MeToo Reaches Ireland
By Margaret Gray
It’s Ireland’s #MeToo moment!
For anyone following the civil suit brought by Nikita Hand against mixed martial artist Conor McGregor in November 2024, for raping her on December 9th, 2018, you’ll know that on July 31st, 2025, the Court of Appeal upheld the High Court’s ruling (1). In a country where rape convictions are historically very low, due to the huge challenges faced by rape survivors, including the court’s ability to request their counsellor’s notes as part of the trial (2), this is a momentous moment for all survivors of sexual violence.
This case is additionally important because in August 2020 the DPP (Director of Public Prosecutions) informed Nikita that it would not prosecute a criminal case against Conor McGregor following a Garda investigation. This was reiterated by them in November 2020 as they felt that there was “no reasonable prospect of conviction” after they reviewed the case, leaving Nikita feeling “devastated” and “let down” by the DPP’s decision not to prosecute McGregor (3).
What struck me the most astrologically, is the activation of McGregor’s (born 14 July 1988) Mars at (0 Aries) in his natal 12th house, from 2018 to the recent upholding of the Court’s ruling. At the time of the rape, transiting Chiron had already been going back and forth over his natal Mars since May 2018. Chiron transits offer the potential to heal aspects of ourselves, in this case his drive and will, and how he takes action (all Mars traits). Mars is also our libido – as in our life force, as well as our sexual drive. Consciousness is always required, particularly when planets and asteroids are in the 12th house of the collective and ancestral unconscious, otherwise they can be expressed in wounding ways towards ourselves and others.
When the court verdict was upheld a few days ago, the transiting Saturn/Neptune conjunction (1 Aries) was getting ready to go back once more to his natal Mars in mid-August and mid-February 2026. The planetary invitation to McGregor depicted here is to take action in a conscious and fair way. In the meantime, Nikita has announced a new civil action against McGreggor and witnesses he did not produce in the appeals process, so there may be more to come…
