UK Parliament Shake-up

March 13, 2026

By Alex Miller

On Background:  On 10 March 2026, the United Kingdom’s House of Commons, Parliament’s Lower Chamber, voted to oust the remaining hereditary peers from the House of Lords.  The step completes a process begun in 1999 by Prime Minister Tony Blair, whose administration ejected most of the 750 Dukes, Earls and Viscounts who received their membership in the Lords courtesy of the titles they inherited, leaving just 92 remaining.  These have now been shown the door, and will leave when this session of Parliament ends in the spring, with the new House of Lords populated exclusively by the UK’s Anglican Bishops and so-called “life peers,” mainly retired politicians, civic leaders and notables, whose seats will not be passed on to their heirs.  The vote ends more than 700 years of aristocratic dominance in the Upper Chamber, a watershed moment for inherit versus merit.

The Lede:  The move is yet another illustration of the ongoing fallout from the recent conjunction of Saturn and Neptune, here taking form as a dissolution or erosion (Neptune) of status and privilege (Saturn) in the UK’s government (also Saturn).  The amorphous (Neptune) quality of government stability (Saturn) in general is up for review at this time, including such world events as the aggression against Iran’s theocratic (Neptune) state (Saturn).

In Brief:  The Sun (20 Pisces) conjunct Mercury retrograde (13 Pisces) and semisquare (45 degrees) Pluto (4 Aquarius) indicates a focus (Sun) on revisiting (retrograde) prior decisions (Mercury), with a vote (also Mercury) that redistributes power (Pluto) in Parliament.

Deep Dive:  Joining the Sun and Mercury is asteroid NOT (18 Pisces), a general disqualifier or symbol of negation, alluding to the vote to remove the hereditary peers.  A T-Square (1) is formed with the solar conjunction opposing (180 degrees – fulfillment, fruition) asteroid House (21 Virgo), both squared (90 degrees – challenging, stressful) asteroid Nobel (15 Gemini).  House represents both the House of Commons and the House of Lords, with Nobel here acting as a placeholder for the ejected Nobles, who are members of the Lords (House) no longer (NOT).  The event has been dubbed “No Nobles Day,” reflecting the “No Kings” protests in the US.

Two additional markers suggest disruption and change in Great Britain generally.  Asteroid Brita (21 Taurus), named for Britain, is coming to conjoin Uranus (27 Taurus), noted for shaking things up in memorable fashion; and asteroid Britten (3 Pisces), a phonetic match for “Britain,” is conjunct both Damocles (5 Pisces) and Mars (6 Pisces).  Damocles indicates a looming threat or peril, in this case the political Sword of Damocles that has been hanging over Parliament’s remaining hereditary peers since 1999, and Mars initiates action, making this the right time to make that threat of expulsion a reality.

Notes:  (1) A T-Square is a dynamic pattern composed of two or more planets in opposition (180 degrees), each squared (90 degrees) a third.  It represents stress and conflict, with the fulcrum point (at the square) offering a possibility of resolution.
