Myanmar Earthquake Rocks Southeast Asia
By Rod Chang
A magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck Myanmar at 12:50 PM local time on 28 March 2025 near Mandalay, Myanmar’s second largest city. Even in Bangkok, a thousand kilometers away, buildings collapsed. The news and images of the collapsed buildings were very frightening for many people.
From an astrological perspective, the fact that this major natural disaster occurred the day before the eclipse is significant. Astrologers know that many traditional astrological methods have given some important warnings in this area, and this information is sometimes so simple that even beginners will not ignore it.
In the astrological chart, the Ascendant and Descendant symbolize the Signs and degrees of contact between the ecliptic (which defines the Sun’s apparent path through the heavens) and the east and west of the horizon, and the M.C./I.C. are the Signs and degrees of the highest and lowest points of the ecliptic at that time and place. These four positions all symbolize “important”. When the planets come into these four positions, they often have a powerful influence.
At the time of the earthquake, Mars, the symbol of destruction and violence, had just risen from the eastern horizon, and Chiron, the symbol of pain, was near the highest point of the ecliptic, which astrologers call the M.C. (Medium Coeli). However, this event chart cannot help us with early warning. We need to study the charts of previous new moons, full moons and even the spring equinox to see if astrologers can get early warnings from these charts.
On the 28th of February we had a new moon in Pisces, which was the new moon before this disaster occurred. In astrology, we should be able to get an early warning from the horoscope of this new moon. If we use Mandalay to draw the new moon chart for that day, we will see Mercury and Saturn near the Ascendant. In ancient astrology, Mercury is a symbol of earthquakes and Saturn can simply be interpreted as misfortune and pain. Bangkok, where the building collapsed, had Neptune near the Ascendant.
There was a lunar eclipse on 14 March. Although it could not be seen in Asia, Mars appeared on the horizon and Mercury and Chiron were also close to the M.C. in this area. This chart was very similar to the chart at the time of the earthquake.
March 20th is the day when the Sun enters Aries. Astrologers use the chart of this day to predict important events of the year or season (including natural disasters). If we draw the chart in the same way using Mandalay as the location, Uranus is at the highest point of the ecliptic in the sky and has a great influence. Uranus symbolizes cutting, division, fright, and sudden events in astrology. Due to the geographical location, even in Bangkok, Uranus was still at the highest point of the ecliptic, which astrologers call the M.C.
Although astrological prediction of natural disasters is a fairly complex study, astrologers must pay particular attention when many different prediction techniques provide clear indicators that can alert the astrologer to the possibility of drastic changes in the area.
