Thailand’s Constitutional Court Suspends Prime Minister Phaethongthan Chinnawat’s Role

On 28 May 2025, the Thai and Cambodian armies engaged in a brief military conflict on the border between the two countries. Then, at the end of June, Prime Minister Phaethongthan Chinnawat was accused by her opponents of having a private conversation with Cambodian strongman Hun Sen that was not in Thailand’s best interests. A recording of this conversation sparked widespread protests, and on 1 July, Thailand’s Constitutional Court announced the prime minister’s suspension.

Phaethongthan Chinnawat is Thailand’s youngest-ever prime minister. She is the daughter of former Prime Minister Thaksin and the fourth person in her family to serve as prime minister.

The Solar Eclipse on 29 March this year has Mercury retrograde (0 Aries), closely conjunct Venus (28 Pisces) and Neptune (29 Pisces). This combination falls on the Descendant in Bangkok. This suggests confusing (Neptune) diplomatic (Venus) information (Mercury) with the potential to disrupt relationships and alliances (Descendant).

Examining the Aries ingress chart for Bangkok in 2025 reveals that Uranus (24 Taurus) is closely conjunct the MC, symbolizing the potential for sudden, significant changes (Uranus) in the country’s leadership (MC). A comparison of Thailand’s constitutional monarchy chart from 1932 with the 2025 Aries ingress chart reveals that the Uranus in the 2025 chart is conjunct the Chiron-Mars conjunction in the 12th house of the 1932 chart. This conjunction symbolizes the wounds (Chiron) that Thailand has tried to heal in the past, such as the endless military coups (Mars). Transiting Uranus brings unexpected situations and suggests possible major disagreements.

Although we do not have the exact birth details of Phaethongthan Chinnawat, we know that her Sun (27 Leo) forms a square (90 degrees) with Saturn (3 Sagittarius). Both the Sun and Saturn represent authority, and the fact that Saturn squares the Sun in the chart further emphasizes the challenges of leadership.  The Sun (9 Cancer) and Saturn (1 Aries) were once again square when her career (Saturn) took a dramatic, highly visible (Sun) turn.  Transit repetitions of natal patterns can provoke activation of those issues.

Meanwhile, transiting Uranus is forming a square with her Sun. When Uranus enters Gemini, it will also oppose (180 degrees) her Saturn.  Not only does transiting Uranus touch on the leadership challenges in her chart, it also depicts the sudden breakup of the multi-party government she leads.

Thailand’s 1932 chart has Mars in early Gemini, indicating that when Uranus enters Gemini on 7 July this year, it will also be in conjunction with Mars (1 Gemini) in this chart. This suggests that Thailand’s long-term unstable politics will be subject to further turmoil (Uranus), especially war or a sudden military coup, both of which are represented by Mars.
