Israel Strikes at Iran’s Nuclear Capacity

June 18, 2025

By Alex Miller & Sue Kientz

In the predawn hours of June 13, 2025, Israel launched attacks against more than 100 targets in Iran, including nuclear facilities and missile sites, killing senior military commanders, scientists and civilians.  Iran responded within 24 hours, attacking Israel with ballistic missiles and drones, and an escalating conflict between the two powers now threatens to widen into a broader regional war.

The underlying cosmic structure of the conflict is the forming square aspect (90 degrees) between Mars and Uranus, which became exact on June 15th.  This speaks to a variety of controversial (Uranus) military-related (Mars) endeavors; in this case, involving attacks (Mars) from Israel based in the refining of uranium (Uranus) into nuclear weapons-grade material by Iran.  The quest to prevent the radical Islamic Republic of Iran from acquiring nuclear capability has been a staple of US and Israeli foreign policy for decades; rounds of diplomacy to craft an agreement on this issue have occurred throughout 2025, but so far without results, prompting Israel to take more direct steps.

War is in the celestial zeitgeist currently, with Mars (27 Leo), traditional planetary ruler of military conflict, also exactly conjunct asteroid Bellona (named for the Roman goddess of war) and opposing (180 degrees) asteroid Pallas (at 25 Aquarius, named for Pallas Athene, the Greek goddess of war), together forming a tense T-Square pattern (two or more points in opposition, each squared a third) with Uranus (28 Taurus).  Uranus lends an element of surprise and controversy, as well as ruling explosions – everything from the pop-pop of a handgun to a nuclear blast.  In addition, Pallas is currently at a crucial stage of its cycle, a metaphoric turning point known as a station, signaling an embedded, entrenched stand, affording the point greater power and influence than would normally be felt.  War drums are beating across the globe at this combination.

Why Israel and Iran specifically should become embroiled in conflict at this time is also portrayed in the stars, with asteroid Israel (7 Gemini) squared asteroid Irani at 10 Virgo, (closest to Iran, also a designation for a resident of that country), denoting tension and struggle.  Unfortunately, this is not a “once and done” situation; due to the similar rates of movement of bodies in the Asteroid Belt, once they come into aspect with each other, they can lock into resonance, maintaining that relationship between them for days, months, even years.  In this instance, Israel and Irani moved within a ten-degree orb of square aspect to each other in mid-May, and will continue thus into mid-September.  The peak of the aspect, at exactitude, will come on July 5th, which may well represent a watershed moment or flashpoint in their conflict, perhaps an escalation or resolution of some kind.

Further complicating the situation, asteroid Jerusalem (26 Cancer), named for the Israeli capital, has been roughly on their midpoint, semisquare (45 degrees) to each since late May, and will continue in that zone until late June, perhaps prompting Israel’s government to take this action at this time.

All that said, the business of conducting war requires humans, as leaders of countries make the fateful decisions. The charts of those leaders and founding charts of their countries show the real tension going on here. Israel’s Netanyahu and America’s Trump both have Mars (at 26 Leo) impacted by the Mars-Uranus square. Israel’s Sun (23 Taurus) is conjunct Uranus and square Mars, America’s Sun (13 Cancer) is semisquare both Mars and Uranus, caught in the middle of this mess. The target of their ire and fear, Iran, has Sun (10 Aries) in semisquare and sesquiquadrate the Mars-Uranus square. All these countries have the manpower and strength (Mars) and high-tech machines (Uranus) they think will deliver victory and “peace” if they can destroy the other side sufficiently, yet they fail to consider the uncertainty and crazy element inherent in war, represented by dwarf planet Makemake (9 Libra). Makemake is near its station, enhancing its power, sesquiquadrate Israel’s Sun, opposite Iran’s Sun, and square America’s Sun. No one is going to win if these leaders go all the way in an all-out war, because no one can predict the unpredictable.

Sue Kientz specializes in astrology’s mid-sized planetary bodies, the largest asteroids and massive trans-Neptunian dwarf planets Eris, Makemake, Haumea, Sedna, and others discovered this century. Her experience researching the latter led to her book More Plutos, which received a 2016 eLit Award. More Plutos also addresses how resonance, fractals, and intuition can explain how astrology works. Sue argues that the dwarf planets are astrology’s great breakthrough, equivalent to what microorganisms did for medicine. She currently serves as Assistant Editor for the Astrology News Service.
