How Does a Baseball Player Have a Game for the Ages?  Transits!

October 31, 2025

By César Love

On Oct 17, 2025, Shohei Ohtani performed what is being described as the greatest post-season performance ever. To clinch the National League pennant for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Ohtani pitched six shutout innings and hit three home runs, including one that went out of Dodger Stadium.

An exact time of birth is not available for Ohtani, but a noon birthchart cast for July 5, 1994 in his birthplace of Oshu, Iwate, Japan, shows a versatile athlete who is riding the zeitgeist of the outer planets.

Ohtani is a very rare athlete in that he excels as both pitcher and hitter. In this age of specialization, Ohtani is uncanny. Players who develop both pitching and batting skills inevitably give up one for the other. Even Babe Ruth, who excelled as a hurler, eventually gave up the pitcher’s mound for the bat. The key to Ohtani’s ability to sustain mastery as both pitcher and batter is his Mars, ruling athletic ability and sports, in Gemini, the Sign of the Twins, ruling versatility. In the duality of batter and pitcher, Mars in Gemini allows him to master both sides. His noon chart shows a conjunction of the Moon in late Taurus to his Mars. Without a time of birth, we cannot know the degree of his Moon, but it is likely that his Moon is also in Gemini, amplifying his versatility.

In 2025, Shohei Ohtani is having an exceptional year as he is riding the energy of all the mid and outer planets, which his birth chart allows him to be keyed into.  The current Grand Trine (1) in Water of Mars in Scorpio, Jupiter in Cancer, and Saturn-Neptune in Pisces is absorbed and channeled by his natal Pluto (25 Scorpio) and his natal Neptune-Uranus conjunction (22 and 24 Capricorn). Uranus, in transit at 1 degree Gemini, is conjunct to his natal Mars and Moon in early Gemini and late Taurus. Ohtani’s natal Mars and Moon are also enjoying a trine (120 degrees) from Pluto (1 Aquarius).

On the evening of Oct. 17, 2025, when Ohtani played the game for the ages, the transit Sun (25 Libra) was squared (90 degrees) to Jupiter (24 Cancer). Both bodies were in very strong aspect to Ohtani’s natal Uranus of 24 Capricorn. The Sun was in square while Jupiter was in opposition (180 degrees) to his Uranus. This transit, combined with the Uranus conjunction to his Mars and Moon, allowed Ohtani to release his internal Uranian strength. Ohtani would perform the superhuman when he hit a homerun out of Dodger Stadium.

The planet Uranus and the Sign Aquarius rule the home run. Like Uranus and Aquarius, the arc of a homerun is high, global, and all-encompassing; and it has the aesthetic of air travel.  Columnist George Will remarked that the home run has the do-it-yourself approach of the American spirit, since it allows one to score a run without the help of another batter. This observation is consistent with the individualism of Aquarius. Baseball’s home run leaders all have strong Aquarian energy in their birth charts.  Both Babe Ruth and Hank Aaron have the Sun in Aquarius, while Barry Bonds has the Moon in Aquarius; all are record-making hitters.

Shohei Ohtani’s game for the ages demonstrates how the potential latent in an individual can be released when in synch with the stars and planets.

Notes:  (1) A Grand Trine is a pattern comprised of three or more points, all equidistant from each other by 120 degrees.  It denotes special gifts or opportunities, but may need a “trigger” in the form of a transit to activate its potential.
