Astrology of a Fixed Game
by Cesar Love
As gamblers turn to astrology to predict the outcomes of games, perhaps they should also look to astrology for clues that games have been fixed.
The FBI recently charged a player of the National Basketball Association in connection with altering the outcome of a game for the benefit of gamblers. The game, involving the Charlotte Hornets, was played under similar transits to the most notorious of fixed sporting events in North American history, the 1919 World Series. These games occurred more than 100 years apart, yet both were played underneath a square (90 degrees) between Pluto and a luminary (Sun or Moon); and both were played under a cloudburst of Neptune.
On March 23, 2023, Charlotte Hornets player Terry Rozier allegedly accepted money from gambling interests to fake an injury and pull himself from a game against the New Orleans Pelicans. The gamblers alledgely placed very large bets that Rozier would score less than a specific number of baskets in that game.
The birthchart of the Charlotte Hornets (b. April 22, 1987) includes an opposition (180 degrees) between their Sun (2 Taurus) and Pluto (8 Scorpio). An opposition between your Sun and Pluto demands that you acknowlege and own your shadow side and your dark subconscious urges. If you keep these parts of you unconscious or repressed, they can unexpectedly rear their ugly heads as violence or criminal activity. In 2023, this opposition within the Hornet’s chart would be deeply triggered by a transiting square from Pluto (0 Aquarius). As the game in question was played, the Moon (2 Taurus) was square to Pluto and conjunct (0 degrees) to the Hornets’ Sun. Here, the Moon would serve as Pluto’s syringe, injecting a potent dose of its dark energy into the Hornets’ Sun.
Terry Rozier’s birth chart is very telling: a noon chart for Terry Rozier (b. March 17, 1994) does not reveal he experienced a tight Pluto transit when he allegedly threw the game (1). With an orb of 5 degrees, we can allow that Pluto (0 Aquarius) formed a conjunction to his natal Uranus (25 Capricorn). Uranus can bring a libertine attitude in which one thinks the rules do not apply to them. This may have contributed to Rozier’s motives. However, the game-day transit that jumps out for Rozier is Mars (29 Gemini) square to Neptune (25 Pisces). Throughout 2023, Rozier’s natal Sun (26 Pisces) was experiencing Neptune tightly conjunct, an aspect that can bring murkiness to one’s identity and values. Since he was born with the Sun in Pisces (Neptune’s ruling Sign), he may have had lifelong uncertainty in regards to his identity and values. The porousness of Pisces makes one impressionable and easily influenced. The 2023 Neptune conjunction would have made his already spongy boundaries even soggier. Meanwhile, the square from Mars in Gemini served as a challenge to act within this internal swamp. Perhaps a fast-talking Gemini friend convinced him to do it. Interestingly, when Rozier took himself out of the game, he claimed to have injured his right foot (2). Feet are the parts of the body under the rulership of Pisces and Neptune.
Rozier’s birth chart reflects the difficult environment of his childhood, particularly the criminal convictions of his father for manslaughter and kidnapping (3). This is mirrored in the conjunction of his Mars and Saturn in Pisces. In a birth chart, the nature of a relationship between a son and his father is reflected in the aspect between one’s Mars and Saturn. Conjunctions like this one indicate a son who is overly dominated by his father. Rozier’s was physically absent during his upbringing. The Sign of Pisces, ruler of the lost and missing, suggests such an absence. Here the Sign of Pisces also suggests a psychic domination of the father over the son.
Rozier’s birth chart also has the Moon in Taurus opposite (180 degrees) to Pluto in Scorpio. Why would an athlete who is paid millions of dollars throw a game for extra cash he doesn’t need? He does so because he thinks he needs that extra cash. In fact, he craves that extra cash. The Moon in Taurus finds security in a cushy home, sound investments, and money in the bank. But a Pluto opposition stabs at all that security. It creates a wound and a craving, a belief that there is never enough. This is a deep fear that bleeds away the stability a Taurus usually enjoys.
All is not bleak in Rozier’s birth chart. He also has Pluto conjunct the North Node, which indicates a very strong ability to transform through his experiences. Evolutionary Astrologers, who are firm believers in personal growth, tell you that Pluto conjunct the North Node is the most powerful aspect one can have for personal transformation.
The FBI busted Rozier, along with other NBA staff for similar misdeeds, on Oct. 23, 2025 (4), a day loaded with Pluto and Scorpio energy. The Sun (0 Scorpio) was square to Pluto (1 Aquarius). The day would include a stellium (3 or more planets in conjunction) of the Moon, Mars and Mercury in Scorpio. That day, Pluto exposed the corrupt, whereas nineteen months earlier, Pluto tempted the corruptible. Mysterious Pluto tempts them, then traps them. Ultimately, he helps them transform. Saturn (26 Pisces) also contributed to the bust; the cosmic cop was conjunct to Rozier’s Sun.
The most famous fix in North American sports occurred under very similar transits. More than 100 years ago, eight players of the Chicago White Sox (b. Nov 20, 1893) (5) conspired with gamblers to lose the 1919 World Series to the Cincinnati Reds. The Series began on Oct. 1, 1919. Like the Hornets-Pelicans game, there was a square in the stars from a luminary to Pluto. The Sun (7 Libra) was square to Pluto (7 Cancer). Neptune was also lurking, clouding judgement and bringing moral ambiguity. Indeed, the influence of Neptune (11 Leo) was swollen by a conjunction to Jupiter (12 Leo). Both were square to the White Sox Midheaven (10 Scorpio), bringing shame and disrepute to their public persona. The phrase “Say it ain’t so, Joe,” reportedly uttered from a boy to White Sox conspirator Joe Jackson (6), echoes through the decades, a haunting stain on the White Sox Midheaven.
Can astrology predict a fixed game? Don’t bet on it. But Neptune conjunctions and Pluto squares should make you suspicious.
Notes: (1) Since the scandal thrust Rozier into the public light, it is quite likely that his Midheaven or Ascendant is at or near 0 degrees Aquarius, which would have undergone a conjunction from Pluto. A time of birth for Terry Rozier could not be found by this author.
