Thousands of Trump-Musk Firings Reversed by Judges

March 13, 2025

By Sue Kientz

Millions of Americans have been asking for weeks now, what can stop Donald Trump from dismantling the U.S. government? Agency by agency, he and fellow billionaire Elon Musk have managed to fire thousands of federal employees each week from the beginning of February onward. Early in this period it was FBI employees facing termination, then federal funding of all sorts was cut off suddenly throughout the country, notably including USAID, which led to job losses. Then it was air traffic controllers, workers who maintain the nukes in the Dept. of Energy, bird-flu scientists needed to deal with an active epidemic of bird flu, attorneys at the Dept. of Justice, and the list goes on and on as the weeks have gone by.

The question “What can stop Donald Trump?” was posed in the ANS article “America Survives Second Week of Trump 2.0” on February 1,(1) with the author answering that what could stop President Trump in his wildly disruptive efforts was an impending transit of Saturn. The ringed planet, on track to reach 22 degrees of Pisces by the middle of March, would square (90 degrees) both Trump’s Sun (22 Gemini) and Moon (21 Sagittarius),(2) the equivalent of a huge celestial red-light as Saturn is the planet indicative of denial, retreat, reversals, and reality checks, especially when in square position to someone’s Sun and Moon, number one and two in celestial importance. A footnote in the article points to March 14 as when a Pisces Saturn-Sun opposite Virgo Full Moon eclipse represented significant roadblocks Trump could suffer in his messy remaking of the federal government.

Seeming to anticipate the Saturnine full-moon eclipse just hours away, two judges on March 13 have kick-started legal reversals of Trump’s massive firings in two separate court cases in California and Maryland. The judges found that the wholesale firing of probationary federal employees, labeled “for cause” even though none had negative evaluations, were illegal, and so these thousands of employees are to be rehired immediately by their agencies. The California case specified that six agencies must rehire their fired ex-employees.(3) Hours later, the same judge was asked to add 11 additional agencies to his order, a motion that was granted. Around the same time, another judge similarly ruled that probationary employees be rehired for the same reason, ordering 21 agencies to rehire the illegally fired employees.(4)

One can imagine how Donald Trump has swallowed this bitter news. But Trump has other troubles to occupy him, as March 14 is also the day Mercury (9 Aries) “stops” and changes direction(5) closely square his own Mercury (8 Cancer), which literally represents a big reversal. Indeed, Congress seems poised to fail to pass a budget or continuing resolution by the budget deadline of midnight Friday. If this transpires, the U.S. government will shut down until congressional Republicans and Democrats decide on a budgetary agreement that Donald Trump will sign.

What will Trump and Musk do if the government shuts down? Take a spin in Trump’s new Tesla? Chess, anyone?

  5. All planets can appear to move retrograde, or backward in degrees as observed from Earth, due to the position of Earth sometimes moving faster than other bodies, so the other planets seem to drift backwards in the sky. Sun and Moon never appear to move retrograde.
