A “Sirius” Relationship: The Iranian Team and Tijuana

July 20, 2026

by Ana Andrade

On 7 June 2026, the Iranian national team arrived in Tijuana, Mexico, ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup matches to be played in the United States. Because of visa restrictions affecting Iranian citizens, the team was unable to stay in the U.S. and instead established its base in Tijuana. (1)

Against all expectations, something remarkable happened. Although the hotel housing the Iranian delegation was heavily secured and surrounded by police, dozens of local supporters gathered to welcome the team. This warm reception was repeated every time the players crossed into the United States for matches and returned to Tijuana, continuing until their final departure for Iran.

The people of Tijuana created an atmosphere of genuine hospitality. Fans gathered at the team’s training headquarters, children asked for photographs and autographs, and handwritten messages of encouragement covered welcome boards. Supporters presented the players with traditional Mexican hats and other local gifts, celebrating every opportunity to express their admiration. The warmth of the city’s embrace even inspired the creation of a symbolic flag combining the national flags of Mexico and Iran. Sharing the same colors—green, white, and red—the two flags became a powerful emblem of friendship and solidarity.

The affection extended beyond the training grounds. Residents followed the team’s bus to the airport and the stadium, ensuring that the Iranian delegation never felt alone during its stay in Mexico. (2)

Eventually, however, the day came when Iran’s World Cup journey ended, and with it, their stay in Tijuana. Before departing, the players expressed their heartfelt gratitude for the extraordinary hospitality they had received. The Iranian delegation presented Mexican supporters with a handwritten letter thanking them for their “incredible support” throughout the tournament and expressing their admiration for the people of Mexico. Astrologically, this story beautifully reflects the symbolism of the Fixed Star Sirius. According to Ptolemy (an ancient Egyptian astrologer), Sirius is of the combined nature of Jupiter and Mars. Traditionally, it bestows honor, renown, courage, devotion, faithfulness, and generosity, while also producing custodians, curators, and guardians. (4) Within the context of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the symbolism of the guardian takes on a broader meaning—not merely as the goalkeeper protecting the net, but as a community protecting, welcoming, and caring for an entire team through compassion, loyalty, and friendship.

On the day of Iran’s arrival, 7 June 2026, transiting Sirius was at 14 Cancer, accompanied by asteroid Mexico (10806) at 12 Cancer and Mercury at 8 Cancer. Meanwhile, asteroid Irani (18987) was retrograde at 29 Sagittarius. Its apparent backward motion may symbolically reflect the repeated crossings the Iranian team made between Mexico and the United States throughout the tournament.

The national chart of Iran (5) contains the Sun at 10 Aries, asteroid Mexico at 16 Aries, and retrograde asteroid Irani at 25 Libra  The chart of Tijuana (6) has the Sun at 19 Cancer, Saturn at 19 Leo in conjunction with asteroid Mexico at 22 Leo, and asteroid Irani at 14 Virgo.

Examining the transits to Iran’s chart, transiting Saturn at 12 Aries was conjunct both the nation’s Sun (10 Aries) and asteroid Mexico (16 Aries). Saturn symbolizes restriction and difficulties, but also responsibility, commitment, and tangible manifestation, suggesting the reality of the close relationship that developed between Iran and Mexico during the tournament. At the same time, transiting Mercury (8 Cancer), asteroid Mexico (12 Cancer), and Sirius (14 Cancer) all activated Iran’s natal Sirius at 13 Cancer, emphasizing communication, friendship, and international recognition.

In Tijuana’s chart, transiting retrograde asteroid Irani at 29 Sagittarius was conjunct natal retrograde Jupiter at 1 Capricorn. Jupiter, the Great Benefic, perfectly symbolizes the generosity, goodwill, and hospitality that the city extended to the Iranian delegation. This retrogradation, an apparent movement of going backwards, may be related to the travels of the Iranian team between Mexico and the U.S. Additionally, transiting Mercury (8 Cancer), asteroid Mexico (12 Cancer), and Sirius (14 Cancer) were conjunct Tijuana’s natal Sirius and Mars, both at 12 Cancer, highlighting a collective spirit of enthusiasm, solidarity, and protective action.

Another remarkable transit is Uranus at 2 Gemini in conjunction with Tijuana’s natal Neptune at 3 Gemini. Uranus often represents humanitarian breakthroughs and unexpected events, while Neptune has long been associated with football through its symbolism of the feet. Together, they beautifully reflect the unexpected bond created through the sport.

Finally, the accompanying photograph perfectly captures the symbolism of this story. Behind the Iranian players appears the Spanish message “Bienvenidos a Tijuana” (“Welcome to Tijuana”), while on the right stands the logo of Club Tijuana, featuring its iconic dog. Symbolically, the image evokes Canis Major, the constellation that contains Sirius itself, as though the celestial guardian were watching over this training.

This story deserves to be remembered. In the midst of political restrictions and international tensions, the people of Tijuana demonstrated that kindness, hospitality, and human solidarity can transcend borders. If Sirius symbolizes devotion, guardianship, and honor, then during the 2026 FIFA World Cup its light shone not only on the football field but also in the hearts of the people who welcomed Iran as family.

Frankly, Sirius is serious!
