Dame Sarah Mullally Enthroned
by Ana Andrade
On March 25, Dame Sarah Mullally assumed the office of Archbishop of Canterbury, marking a historic milestone as the first woman to occupy this position. The ceremony, held at Canterbury Cathedral and attended by approximately 2,000 guests, including the Prince and Princess of Wales, also incorporated prayers for those affected by ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. From an astrological perspective, the sky presented a remarkable configuration that symbolically resonates with the significance of this event. The Moon (0 Cancer), a Sign it rules and at the very beginning, highlights feminine presence, care, protection, and emotional connection with collectivity. Its approach toward an upcoming conjunction with Jupiter (15 Cancer), a planet traditionally associated with religion, wisdom, moral guidance and the ecclesiastical sphere, reinforces the spiritual and institutional dimension of the moment.
Simultaneously, the conjunction of the Sun and Saturn (both in 4 Aries) introduces a complex interplay between innovation and continuity. The Sun, as a significator of leadership and visibility, in conjunction with Saturn, representing structure, tradition, and authority, suggests the emergence of a new chapter within an ancient institution. Their placement in Aries, a Sign associated with initiation and pioneering action, reconfirms what has been described.
This celestial arrangement seems to mirror the nature of the event: a historic first that both honors tradition and introduces meaningful change. Notably, it occurred just one day before Dame Sarah Mullally’s birthday, adding a further layer of symbolic timing. (2)
Additional planetary factors contribute to the overall coherence of the configuration. Venus (24 Aries) may be read as indicative of the increasing visibility of women in leadership roles, emphasizing autonomy, initiative, and the redefinition of traditionally gendered spaces. Mars (18 Pisces), by contrast, a planet of action placed in a Sign associated with empathy, compassion, and spiritual sensitivity, softens its energies. Its trine to Jupiter suggests a harmonization between action and religious purpose.
Taken together, these configurations illustrate a convergence of leadership, institutional continuity, transformation, compassion and the emergence of feminine authority, providing a coherent astrological framework to this significant milestone.
