Michael Jackson Still Rocks It!
by Ana Andrade
On 24 April, “Michael,” the musical biopic about Michael Jackson, was released in USA (1) and delivered the highest opening weekend ever recorded for a biographical film. The production stars Jaafar Jackson—Michael Jackson’s nephew—in the leading role, a casting decision that immediately drew public attention due to both the physical resemblance and the symbolic weight of having a family member portray one of the most iconic entertainers in modern history. (2)
The film generated an impressive $217 million (£160 million) globally after opening on Wednesday, surpassing the previous opening records set by “Bohemian Rhapsody,” which earned $124 million in 2018, and “Oppenheimer,” which grossed $180 million during its opening period in 2023. The commercial success of the film demonstrates the enduring global fascination with Michael Jackson’s life, legacy, and cultural influence, decades after his rise to international fame. It also highlights how audiences remain deeply engaged with narratives surrounding major cultural figures whose personal lives and artistic contributions continue to generate debate.
From an astrological perspective, the synchronicities between the natal charts of Michael Jackson (3) and Jaafar Jackson (4) are particularly striking. Michael Jackson was born with Venus at 17 Leo, while Jaafar Jackson has Mercury positioned at 18 Leo. Mercury governs communication, performance, coordination of movement, voice, and expression, and this close alignment with Michael Jackson’s Venus suggests a symbolic continuity in the way artistic talent was valued by the singer, and the attraction he created.
Another notable link appears through Michael Jackson’s cusp of the Fourth House, traditionally associated with ancestry and family roots, which is located at 19 Gemini. This point closely aligns with Jaafar Jackson’s Venus at 20 Gemini. Venus is associated with artistic appeal, charisma, beauty, and public attraction, making this aspect especially compelling. Symbolically, it reflects how Jaafar may be carrying forward not only a family legacy but also the aesthetic and emotional resonance associated with Michael Jackson’s image and artistry.
The transits on the day of the film’s release provide an additional layer of interpretation. A powerful triple conjunction involving Saturn at 8 Aries, Mars at 11 Aries, and Mercury at 13 Aries formed a conjunction with Jaafar Jackson’s natal Saturn at 7 Aries. In astrological symbolism, Saturn is often linked to career milestones, discipline, responsibility, and long-term achievement. Mars adds momentum and visibility, while Mercury amplifies communication and media attention. Together, these transits suggest a major professional turning point for Jaafar Jackson, elevating his career profile.
At the same time, transiting Pluto at 5 Aquarius was conjunct Jaafar Jackson’s natal Uranus at 2 Aquarius. Pluto is often associated with transformation and reinvention, while Uranus signifies innovation and sudden change. This combination may reflect the performance of Jaafar Jackson in such a globally recognized role, particularly one connected to a figure like Michael Jackson. During the day of the release, the Moon transited 3 Leo, making a conjunction to the Sun at 3 Leo of Jaafar Jackson.
Finally, on the day of the release, the Sun was at 3 Taurus, making a trine to the Sun of Michael Jackson at 6 Virgo, also squared Jaafar Jackson’s Sun. In addition, Mercury at 13 Aries on the day of the release is closely trine to Michael Jackson’s natal Uranus at 13 Leo and Venus at 17 Leo. This aspect may symbolically reflect the film’s strong emotional connection with audiences. While many viewers embraced the film as a celebration of Michael Jackson’s artistry, some critics argued that it presented a sanitized version of his life and career, avoiding some controversial aspects of his legacy. (2) Nevertheless, the film suggests that public interest in Michael Jackson remains exceptionally strong, and astrologically, the alignments at the day of the release appear to reinforce themes of legacy, inheritance, and cultural immortality.
