Full Moon Triggers Irish Anti-Immigrant Riots

1000 years ago, a small settlement was established in the area now known as the town of Ballymena, in Northern Ireland. In December 1937, precise date unknown, the town was granted borough status.

In recent times the people of this Northern Irish town have welcomed immigrants from many nations. Last weekend and following the alleged sexual assault on a young girl by two immigrant teenagers, riots broke out. These riots have not yet been quelled and at the time of writing – in the hours after this Full Moon – there is considerable disquiet and concern as to how developing skirmishes can be prevented.

On the other side of the world in Los Angeles there is unrest too – though for very different reasons.

Heightened emotions are associated with a Full Moon, and perhaps never more so than when that Full Moon is in Sagittarius and at maximum southern declination (arguably giving this Full Moon more potency). Sagittarius can so easily be outraged leading to overreaction.

We don’t have a precise date for Ballymena’s incorporation. In fact, it was two full years -1939 – before a local council was formed. December 1937 was simply the establishment of the principle.

Yet the chart for the winter solstice 1937 provides clues as to why the people of the area might respond to today’s planetary influences. In 1937, Pluto was about to make its Leo ingress (entry into the Sign) and, depending on the actual date, Jupiter was either in the late degree of Capricorn or initial degree of Aquarius.

A formidable Grand Cross formed as Saturn, in very late Pisces, formed a right angle (90 degrees) to centaur Chiron in late Gemini, in turn forming a right angle to asteroid Hygeia (one of the larger asteroids and noted for well-being), at a right angle to the Sun. Allowing a 1° orb we could state that this Grand Cross was on the World Axis, a sensitive zone which often prompts events that garner global attention.

Saturn and Neptune have been crossing this same axis since late March 2025 – and pressure on this planetary formation has been building. That pressure erupted as Jupiter arrived at the 1937 Chiron position. A glaring wound in the form of localized tension between peoples of different cultures erupted.

Authorities may be hopeful that raw emotions will subside after this Full Moon. However, the forthcoming Last Quarter Moon on June 18 is positioned at 27 Pisces – again within just a degree of the Saturn position in 1937, could see further instances of rebellion.

For rather different reasons the LA riots might also continue:

The city of Los Angeles was founded on September 4th 1781, when Uranus (the planet associated with politics) was at 2 Cancer- again within orb of the World Axis. There is no Grand Cross in this chart but other planetary positions and shapes suggest ongoing stress. (Note that Los Angeles was not incorporated until 4th April 1859. That chart too is activated by present configurations).

Mercury was at 27 Leo – near the degree of US President Donald Trump’s Ascendant and aligning with Fixed Star, Regulus. With Mars crossing this degree as Uranus makes a right angle to it on June 15th – and as Jupiter comes to Uranus’ position, mass rebellion in response to decisions taken by the US government could result in further unrest.

Sadly, and in both Ballymena and Los Angeles, the effect of this Full Moon could be felt for many weeks. 

[Editor’s Note:  the disturbances in both Ballymena and LA can also be related to the forming square aspect (90 degrees) between Mars and Uranus, exact on June 15^th, which in simple astrologic language can be read as violence (Mars) directed at immigrants (Uranus), or protests (also Uranus) on their behalf, championing (Mars) their cause.]
