The New Moon’s Energetic News: Cancer – 14 July 2026
By Lynne Hyde
Our flittering, fluctuating lives that have been blowing around in springtime’s Gemini winds begin to succumb and to subside into summertime’s soft and sensitive ease. The Sun, Moon and retrograde Mercury are joining together like close caring sisters in Cancer’s protective pool. We sense the slowing and the intuitive knowing and we slightly notice now, how we genuinely feel…
Cancer is a Cardinal Water Sign. Emotions strongly bond beings together, like trusted, beautiful, blue canvas threads of sincere connectivity. The weaving of “family fabric,” chosen or inherited, becomes our primary focus during this time of year. We want to feel needed; we need to know we belong. We need to feel connected to others, to be a part of something greater than our little, separate, private selves. The Cancer archetype is the picture of the mother nurturing her child. It’s caring, inclusive, warm, watchful. We want to have the people around us, in our intimate circles, be supported, be taken care of and be safe. We give this to others because we desperately need it ourselves. Cancer’s greatest challenge is to be vulnerable and to share the fragile insecurity that shakingly and surprisingly lives hidden inside everyone on planet Earth.
Cancer energy tries to heal humanity’s psychic isolation by building “heartful, touching sentimentality.” It proclaims: “You are not alone; we are all in this together!” Feelings run deep and the corralled currents within us are awakening, being carried forward by the steady beat of “sensitivity.” There is no way to turn away, there is no way to silence them. We know who, truly, our friends are, we know that our family matters, we know if we want to stay married or not. We know we have to ride the “Cardinal” thrusting wave and move forward into our unknown futures. The Cancer energy being “Cardinal” requests us to initiate emotional honesty.
This may not be so easy to do. Mercury, the planet of thought and communication, stationed retrograde in Cancer on June twenty-ninth, magnifying our feeling nature and creating the uncomfortable uncertainty as to whether we can trust it. Shall I let the other know how I feel, we ask? Did I speak too strongly and isolate them? My feelings are like rushing rivers that I can’t hold back but I don’t want to injure anyone, says the backward moving Mercury, hesitantly…
When a planet is retrograde, it’s closest to the Earth and its influence is amplified, yet it is wavering, quivering and questioning. There is no balance, there is vacillation. Mercury will move ahead of the Earth on July twenty-third when it resumes direct motion, and we will find our feelings’ stable footing. We will be better able to trust our stand then; we can rest assured that our words will safely be spoken and regret won’t lynch us. Waiting for ten days after Mercury turns is a good idea in all matters of importance. My God, the leaders of the world need to be aware of the non-negotiable rhythm above us to help tame the turmoil below, all around us!
We have just taken the first step out of and away from extreme, potent planetary intensity with the coming together of Mars and Uranus at the same time that Saturn squared the Sun and the United States Sun. I think astrologers expected far worse; I know I did. This all took place at the 4th of July and for a few days following. Now it may be that the events manifest and the effects take form in front of us, as the planetary stronghold unwinds. We crossed through a very dangerous zone and just following this time band, the bombs began dropping on Iran again.
The transits in this New Moon chart are almost “after the fact;” let’s hope the worse is behind us. Saturn (restriction) in Aries is still widely squaring Mercury (communication): carefully watching our words is a strong requirement in this upcoming cycle, adding to and affirming Mercury’s retrograde influence. Yet, it may be that the coming opposition of Jupiter to Pluto that takes place approximately every twelve years, is when the damage is seen. Jupiter, the planet of expansion, will oppose Pluto, the planet of intensity, on July twentieth, and this is a big one! These planets signal power and willfulness. Jupiter has just entered Leo, signaling that we all want to have fun, and opposing Pluto in its new Fixed land of Aquarius, is anything but fun. These are determined, stuck Signs and no one will be willing to budge. There is a dreadful seeking of “power and control” in our petty, personal lives and on the world stage, that can rear its ugly head in this cycle to come.
Pluto and Jupiter in opposition can also indicate some type of “financial stuff.” When they join together, they signal “big money and prosperity.” When they stand opposite each other there can be some kind of unravelling and collapse. The other pointer to this is that Venus, the planet of love and abundance, is just one degree away from the square (challenging) to Uranus (the chaotic disrupter). With both of these seeds planted in the core of this Cancer New Moon cycle, we may be faced with some stock market quaking, some financial panic or just some unexpected event that makes our wallets, our hearts and our values shake. Knowing this is “As Above” helps take the juice and worry out of the “As Below.”
Another understanding that can be cradled right now for comfort and assurance, is that the North Node, the place in the sky where the Moon’s orbit intersects with the Sun’s pathway, will enter the Sign of Aquarius very shortly. In past financial astrological research, this has indicated the low of the eighteen-year monetary cycle. Often, it’s the bottom of the real estate cycle and we notice now the market has slowed and it’s difficult to buy and also to sell. The node is in Aquarius for approximately one and a half years. It’s helpful to take note of this in order to not push upstream for gathering resources and wealth. It’s time to paddle and to float. Also to add to it, Chiron, the planetary body that shows where our wounds live, has just entered Taurus, the Sign of money and values. It hasn’t been here for fifty-one years. This is the spot where we hurt and we heal. We are aware now that money – its constant allure and its never-ending necessity – is painful.
So, four different specific aspects and transits form now. They all speak of the same theme and mark a time of economic slowdown; a need to peer through our financial lens as the summer heat of 2026 unfolds.
Cancer wants and most importantly needs security. The planets join together in their casual yet costly outfits, all speaking the same message: stay close to home and to your chosen family and feel the nurturing tenderness, as it’s bright and blurry out there, and it’s time to find your prescription sunglasses.
