The New Moon’s Energetic News: Virgo – 10 September 2026
By Lynne Hyde
The Eclipse blanket has lifted. The covers upon us are not as tightly threaded anymore and the thickness has thinned, moving us on, to our next vital step, again. The cellophane veil that has been encasing the Earth for a month, from the Sun and Moon’s darkening, has dissolved. The messages being whispered to us from the ethers have disappeared, like a tide going out, leaving remnants and remains. Leaders have died (Dolly Parton), storms did arrive and civilizations cried (Nepal). Take note of what this past month has felt like so you can sense and store the nature of eclipses, that come as individual ghosts and entities, two times a year, and punctuate their indelible mark on time, and into our fates…
Last month at the Solar Eclipse, I stood on the edge of an oceanside cliff in Iceland in the rain, with my cardboard eclipse glasses on. The Icelanders said “Well, what do you expect when you come to Iceland?” The birds were confused; diving, swooping, cackling and batting their wings over the grey pounding waves, and then it all stopped. Darkness fell just like the sun was on a dimmer switch, and it became completely black and silent. A huge sense of awe shot out from me verbally, like an expulsion that I had no control of. Amazement took over, stunned and held me, like I was a stone. I was frozen and opened wide by the immense, ecstatic, monumental moment that lasted for so long. I sensed the infinite interlacing itself with life on Earth. It appeared like an alien; an irresistible, elegant, powerful creature, originating from somewhere far, far away. It flashed down: deep, penetrating and knowing. It made me small. The eclipse, the darkness that dropped, followed by a delicate slice of orange, widening on the horizon, was revealing that: eternity really exists…
The days are not as bright now, as the Sun skirted into Virgo with no one even noticing. Our cleaning cloths are scrubbing, getting organized has become the daily theme and there’s an unreasonable demand for perfection, in taking care of minute duties, that has creeped in. Sustainability is situated, centered in our glasses now. We feel fall coming and we know we need to see…
Virgo is a Mutable Earth Sign, and when the last breath of having fun is exhaled from the Leo cycle in September, we have “Labor Day” in the US and work begins again. Virgo is concerned with practicality, fixing things, taking care of details and getting back to basics. It sees what is needed and serves those around itself. The focus of “I” that was so strong in Leo, becomes “what can I do to help others” now; “how can I be useful in the situations that surround me?” It doesn’t do well in the spotlight and abhors itself as the focus. Virgo needs to be productive to feel worthy. We need to return to our projects; we need to make friends with order and routine to find support in the cycle that is now upon us …
The Sun and Moon are joining together at eighteen degrees of Virgo. They are both sixty degrees away (promising) from Mars which is in Cancer; giving us some access to energy, strength and an ability to move forward. Mars, though, is weak in Cancer, and we may tend to feel insecure, uncertain and sensitive. When doubt peeks its head out, from around a hidden corner, dare to speak up and share your worries as Mercury, the planet of thinking and communicating, is in charge of Virgo. This is why at this time of year school starts in the northern hemisphere, and intelligence, like a fine, humble prince, steps in. It has just gallantly pioneered itself into Libra, a Sign capable of diplomacy and appreciative of beauty and art. Mercury is joining in a grand one-hundred-and-twenty-degree trine aspect to the giants, Pluto and Uranus. This is highly favorable for efficiency and mental breakthroughs. We are smart, alert and capable. Use this masterful energy to solve problems in a new way this month. Brilliant ideas are floating around us, ready to be snatched up like free-falling pennies from the sky. Mercury is also opposed by Neptune, the planet of delusion and deceit, so don’t just count on free-falling pennies, as you could well go broke.
Saturn, the planet of contraction, and Jupiter, the planet of expansion, are also aiding us this month. They join every twenty years and initiate a new financial cycle. They started this in the Sign of Aquarius back in the days when Covid began and they now have moved into a trine aspect in the Fire Signs of Aries and Leo. This is a powerhouse of manifestation with stability and support. We have the Grand Air Trine of Mercury, Pluto and Uranus along with the fiery trine of Jupiter to Saturn. This New Moon chart looks like a positive, permission to “GO”, green light, but only if you do the needed Virgo work.
Health and healing concerns may also be in our front view mirror. Venus, the planet of values and money, has just taken its first gulp of the steamy waters of Scorpio; it doesn’t do well here. It is sinking at zero degrees when this brand-new cycle begins, and is opposed by Chiron, the planetary body of wounding and healing, that’s also at zero degrees, at the very beginning, of the money Sign: Taurus. We may be facing entrenched health and financial issues that require us to finally see a doctor, a dentist, or an accountant. There may be some kind of money matter on the planet and in our lives that now has its Scorpionic stinger out, and must be confronted and dealt with. Venus will turn retrograde October third and then financial flurries could blow strongly and become the fall season’s first snow blast, or maybe even snowstorm. When planets appear to be behind the Earth, their functions can stall and become snarled and complicated. There could be deep, disturbing medical ailments and news about capital loss of people in our lives. Healing needs to be offered and to be found. This is a time for all of us to face and unwind any physical or financial tangles that are around us, before Venus, the generous benefactor, turns backwards.
Welcome to the New Moon and to Fall and the approaching season’s Equinox; when light and dark are balanced as we straddle the shiny, quivering equilibrium. Time is marching onward without any way to stop and pause its deliberateness. As this September and October clock turns its hands one delicate minute at a time, may we use the astrological messengers to declutter our space, face our needed healing and to trust the positive, magnificent planetary power and ease that’s unfolding in this cycle and then, may we step modestly forward, onto Virgo’s green, safe Earth…
