The New Moon’s Energetic News: Taurus
by Lynne Hyde
We’ve made it through the wild, fiery blast of the Aries beginning and now it’s time to make a practical, steady plan to continue, while we travel through Taurus’ luxurious lands. The impulsiveness we’ve been feeling of late will give way to caution and carefulness, and life should become simpler as this month of May unfolds. There is a whisper in the fresh, spring morning air, urging us to notice the beauty that surrounds us; and a strong, yet soft call, to feel the ease that we need, to soothe us, as the evening sun sets. We should try now to fill the exhausted cells of our bodies with pleasure and our fragile nervous systems with acceptance and relief. It’s time to get comfortable wearing our own skin and living the particular life we have solely been given. It’s time to value our self-worth.
Taurus is an Earth Sign that can be fixed, stubborn and unwilling to change its ways. Its symbol is the bull, and its energy is just the way the bull looks: large, black, slow, massive, unyielding, steady, stuck and sometimes boring. Its main concern is attaining security and stability without having to work too hard; yet it can be finely focused, definitely determined, wonderfully reliable and tenaciously trustworthy.
The planet in charge of Taurus is Venus. Venus is feminine, lovely, soft, and cherishes beauty, aesthetics, art and money. The combination of this Sign and the planet that rules it gives way to a month where we want to slow down, take things easy, be patient and extra calm, and turn our attention to stabilizing and growing our finances while creating and appreciating the elegance that’s around us. Keep a slender vase of vibrant flowers on your kitchen countertop and make the appointment with your investment advisor that you’ve put off for ages now. Prosperity is the focus this month and it needs to be watered and generously fertilized so the tariff weeds won’t grow. We are summoned to stand still and sense life’s sensuality, even with our financial concerns. Doing this will kindly further us as this Taurus cycle is born.
The birth sounds bountiful but the aspects this New Moon makes are obstinately powerful and just too forceful. The first breath taken turns into a choke with the Sun and Moon in a stressful square angle to the warrior planets, Pluto and Mars. This is the last of three oppositions that aggressive Mars will make to controlling Pluto. It all began last November when Donald Trump was elected US president, and we are now at the crisis point of the final passage. There may be rumblings around the globe of fierceness, wars and attacks. This energy takes place at four degrees of the Fixed Signs of Leo and Aquarius. They stand stuck at an exact face off, holding each other in a tight bond that’s about to explode, while squaring and strangling the Sun and the Moon at seven degrees of Taurus. The month’s heart is beating with tension as it tries to inhale its first gulp of wanted newness.
Saturn, Venus and the North Node (point where the Moon’s and Sun’s paths meet) join at the end of Pisces, signaling an end of an era, a pause, a need to be cautious, careful and reflect on the karmic requirement to reconcile all that has come before. It signals the fear of recession that’s held in the world’s breast.
Use the forceful, almighty energy of the four Fixed planets’ precise contact, as there is usable power there for our tired will that needs strength and direction, to bring us forward and move us through the narrow eye of the moment’s needle. Thankfully, there is solid ground under our feet and there is compassion filling our hearts, that have long felt deserted. Taurus gently tells us: nurturing and growing beauty, stability and security are all that we essentially need right now to stay steady ….
