The New Moon’s Energetic News: Virgo
By Lynne Hyde
The fire of fun is fading. The suggestion of shifting directions, back to our personal work and purpose, is whispering encouragingly, in the ending summertime that surrounds us now. There’s a hint of fall finding us, as the days are slightly shorter and our steps are a bit longer. The almighty Sun and lady Moon join on August 23, 2025 in the earthy Sign of Virgo, as a new season in the twelve-fold cycle hesitates, but inevitably unfolds. We may feel a tad reluctant to walk forward into our now stricter future.
Virgo energy focuses on efficient solutions. It wants and needs to feel useful. It thrives from practically fixing problems and is lost if life becomes too centered around them. It’s an Earth Sign, meaning feeling safe, secure and grounded is an inherent necessity. During this time of year, in order to utilize the energy with the most bang for our buck, we must become Virgo-like. It’s time to mend our lives and repair our physical worlds. It’s time to find the right tools, time to clean off the stains that have accumulated on our dirty carpets. It’s time to offer direct straightforward strategies, to help our ailing friends. When September sets in we must get back to the “business of survival”. It’s a time of reconfiguring and reorganizing. It’s time to face what’s not working and with mental sharpness to set it and most importantly, get it right!
If we spend one intentional month with the mercurial Virgo wind in our sail (for the Sign of Virgo is ruled by the planet Mercury) for the sole purpose of “restoration,” the rest of the year our ships will successfully cross 2025’s great daring ocean and all twelve future phased astrological natural revolutions. It is “Virgo Time” and it is now or never for being determined to be disciplined. It may actually save our lives …
This New Moon is exactly in a ninety-degree aspect (challenging) to Uranus, the planet of chaos. This is the first New Moon in eighty-four years to be grasped and suddenly choked by such severe radical change and uncertainty. Uranus wants to take us out of our regimen, break our confines, take us higher into more freedom, but our human nature resists as we are programmed for stability. The Sun and Moon both just entering the order-seeking, perfectionist Sign of Virgo, and then instantly facing off with Uranus, hovering in the first degree of bipolar-like Gemini, may create a month of rocketing fluctuations. We will need to seek routine and attempt to put our ducks in a row with the understanding that at any moment something may drop down from above, like a stone falling from nowhere, that lands on our fragile carton of eggs that we have been carrying and suddenly we must switch directions and create an omelet.
We will need to put adaptability at our side and make it our best friend as this fall tries to step in. We need to plan out a general course, which we can do as Pluto trines (a supporting, favorable aspect) this New Moon, but allow the universe to throw the dice for us too. Our ability to mutate and stay versatile and work with whatever comes our way will serve our greater good. With Uranus in the mix this month, we all must expect and accept the “unexpected.” Furthering emphasizing this, we must be okay with knowing there is no way to possibly figure out what that will be…
Adding to the unusualness of this current cycle that is being “birthed upon us” is the fact that we are entering what astrologers call “Eclipse Season.” This occurs twice yearly between the New and Full Moons that take place every month, approximately two weeks apart from each other. Eclipses are supercharged New and Full Moons, like lunations on steroids, and events upon Earth are magnified, accelerated and intensified. It’s rather like the birthing process, when the female hormones surge super strong, and then following birth drop suddenly, and “they and she” fall off a cliff. It’s a time that’s unstable, not normal and precarious. Primal energy takes over. Nature, in the birthing process, is chemically altered as new life is brought into being. After birth the loss of hormones can create a major depression. There are highs and then there can be lows.
Eclipses wrap the planet, like a tightly woven, patterned blanket in a process of birth and death. We humans then experience the complications of the manifestation – the joy, the grief and the loss. This heightened state is beginning as this upcoming Full Moon, September 7th, will be a Total Lunar Eclipse. The Full Moon will be in the sign of Pisces and feelings may be strong, deep and uncharted. We may feel vulnerable, unprotected and be overly sensitive. There is a sense of a loss of control again, as Saturn in its retrograde swishing movement through the heavens has re-entered the last Sign of the zodiac to finish up our endings. It won’t return to this sea in the zodiac for another thirty years and this winter will again re-enter and resume what has just begun in the Sign of Aries. We all are completing something, surrendering to something larger than ourselves, and we all must let go of something, but we aren’t sure exactly what it is. A purple haze hovers in our consciousness and we can sense the magnitude of life’s tidal movements. We touch the tip of eternity in this Piscean energy for this last instant and then it’s gone…
So, at this Virgo New Moon as summer fades and fall has yet to begin, we seek to gain order and plant perfection. We also must modestly understand that events on Earth this month may escalate, volatility may swell dramatically inside our emotional interiors and outside on our practical lands. Eclipses take control out of our hands and destiny gets a chance to strongly ring its own super “Bells of Direction” but we can’t be sure if they’re melodic or chaotic …
