The New Moon’s Energetic News: Libra – 10 October 2026

The space around us is clean and decluttered and there is a sense of being “caught up” which is rare and only present for a brief, fleeting moment as the Sun and Moon turn and quietly leave Virgo, depositing their new intention in the plushness of Libra’s velvet expanse. The light of the sun slants specifically through the tall trees, decorating the afternoon air with a slight shimmer while the cool breeze blows, brushing the red tips of the plants’ plumes upwards. Nature, like us, finally feels that nothing can hold it back; as balance, beauty and ease are elegantly lounging in the wide, welcoming lap of Fall. We have recently gone through the stabilizing, narrow chamber of the Equinox; where darkness and light are equal and the Sun patiently crawled across the potent degree of zero Libra, the Sign of equilibrium and equanimity. We know now that all is well within; even though the world is still in utter chaos, if we pause and listen, we can feel the fair reckoning around us… 

Libra is a Cardinal Air Sign. Cardinal is initiating energy that needs to take action and Air is mental, thinking energy that needs to communicate.  We come to this part of the zodiac that is now “other focused.”  The Sun does not do well here because its sole drive is to make our identity, our ego, grow stronger. When the Fall unfolds and the festive Summer is behind us, and Virgo’s work of getting organized is complete, we come to “Libra time” and it’s no longer about our own aspirations and desires. Rather, it’s the realization, the call, the longing, the need for being in relationship with others.  Libra is pale and incomplete when alone; it only sees its reflection, gains a sense of self, through others.  The difficulty comes when it gives its power away in order to harmonize and be accepted by the people that surround them, by the beings they are so dependent upon…Reach out now and nurture the relationships in your life, as this month, they really matter; watch with a sly, wise eye when you find yourself giving away too much, in order to please.  We may find ourselves swaying back and forth on a pendulum between our private needs and wanting to be seated on social circles with others. Seek balance between the two, as this is Libra’s eternal lesson that we can attempt and may need to learn now…      

Venus, the planet in charge of this cycle, turned retrograde (appears to be behind the Earth) October 3^rd. Venus is the planet concerned with and signifies our finances, our values, matters of beauty and our relationships.  These areas of life are under the microscope now. When a planet turns retrograde our attention also needs to turn in the direction the planet represents. Retrogradation slows events down externally so we can “re-consider” internally. Issues arising that need to be ruminated upon could be: financial flare ups, financial worries and flurries. Can I sell my house? Can I get financing? Who do I value that I would want to leave my stuff to when I die, anyway? What’s going on with that female friend I haven’t spoken to after that last awkward upset we had a year ago, should I call? How about cutting bangs, would they look good on me? A new vase for that cabinet?  Questions and uncertainties persist until answers and action can take place after November 14^th when Venus moves forward again.  Often there is a change in the direction of the stock market, sudden losses or sudden gains; often people divorce or marry when they should have waited; often major decorating mistakes take place; often one’s sense of self-worth is challenged and it’s not a good time to risk a new haircut. Confusion can abound this cycle, even if Libra is humming.  Pause if possible…

Five of the ten planets are retrograde as this cycle starts and will be until this cycle ends. Conditions in motion are taking longer to resolve, patience is required. Pluto will turn direct October 16^th, possibly creating more bombs that will directly drop and kill people.  Also, eight days later, Mercury will step backward on October 24^th. The United States midterm election on November 3^rd will most likely be blurry. Knowing this, step back, don’t worry, don’t expect results, don’t plant important new seeds, but wait until the astrological weather picks up all the fallen leaves that are scattered over our yards and finally fertilizes the Fall soil…  

The one major, tight aspect that’s beating in the heart of this cycle is that the feminine Venus is squaring and challenging the male Mars. The feminine and masculine parts of us are at odds. There is tremendous “desire” birthed with Venus at 7 degrees of Scorpio squaring Mars at 7 degrees of Leo; passion is at its all-time high! Women will dress provocatively and men will strut evocatively. Eroticism will parade. Yet the real question behind this sexual energy is, will we be fulfilled and satisfied from what we want and go after?  Desire is magnified now and underneath it we may ask ourselves, are we getting enough pleasure from what we are doing daily? What is our pace in relation to giving and receiving and where do we stand between wanting harmony and being assertive? There is definitely a voluptuous and dramatic dance unfolding between the two, and such a perfect and pertinent Venus/Mars theme unfolding during this “us versus other” Libra cycle. With Venus retrograde, we may have to ask for more and learn to receive readily, if we don’t want resentment growing like a dreaded weed at our doorstep…   

So go slow; take your time and acknowledge the beauty that’s purring strongly like a contented cat as the Sun and Moon join in Libra, a Sign which is constantly in the act of seeking balance, in order to receive harmony that will quiet its constant varying vacillations…
