RIP George Foreman
by Alex Miller
Former World Heavyweight Champion George Foreman passed away in Houston, Texas on 21 March 2025, mourned by boxing fans across the globe. Foreman was a staple of 1970s professional boxing, winning the title in 1973, in a stunning smackdown of undefeated Joe Frazier. He held the title for just a year, retiring shortly afterward, but returned to the ring in his 40s and became the oldest ever champion in 1994. Later in life Foreman became a household name in the promotion of his eponymous George Foreman Grill, a small cooking appliance.
Born 10 January 1949, Foreman’s career path seems preordained, with asteroid Champion (9 Virgo) conjoined both Saturn (5 Virgo), ruling career, and the Ascendant (8 Virgo), which influences our public image and how others see us. A conjunction of Mars (5 Aquarius) with Mercury (7 Aquarius) combines fighting (Mars) with hands (Mercury), making him a natural pugilist. When he wrested the championship from Joe Frazier on 22 January 1973, a square from asteroid George (23 Scorpio) to asteroid Fraser (21 Leo, alternate spelling) depicted their rivalry, but George also in sesquiquadrate aspect (135 degrees) to asteroid Nike (13 Pisces) and trine (120 degrees) asteroid Champion (22 Cancer) granted him the win (Nike, Greek goddess of victory) and the title (Champion).
At his death in Houston on 21 March 2025, asteroid George (4 Sagittarius) appears at station, standing still in the heavens, which represents reaching a pivotal turning point. From there, George is closely sextile (60 degrees) an exact pairing of asteroid Houston with Pluto, modern lord of death (both at 3 Aquarius) and trine a combination of the Sun (1 Aries), Mercury (7 Aries) and asteroid Anubis (9 Aries), highlighting (Sun) news (Mercury) of the death (Anubis, Egyptian deity governing funerary rites) of George Foreman (George). As well, asteroid Forman (13 Cancer, alternate spelling) conjoins Mars (20 Cancer) and asteroid Champion (22 Cancer), opposed (180 degrees) asteroid Rip (17 Capricorn), another celestial rendering of the death (Rip = RIP) of a sports (Mars) title holder (Champion) named George Foreman (Forman).
