Trump v Los Angeles

June 10, 2025

By Alex Miller

On June 6, 2025, US President Donald Trump ordered the deployment of 2000 members of the National Guard to Los Angeles, California, to quell protests against his immigration policies.  The deployment, while legal, was a rare instance of the federal government usurping an authority normally reserved to state governors, with both California Governor Gavin Newsom and LA Mayor Karen Bass opposed to the intervention. The arrival of the Guard escalated tensions with protestors, to the extent that a genuine crisis may be in the offing.  Trump has described the protestors as “insurrectionists,” and the administration has further mobilized 700 active-duty marines to send to the region.

There are many ways of looking at this incident, both in terms of motivation and the astrology which underpins it, and these are reflected in the cosmic patterns of the day.  Two major squares are forming at this time, ninety-degree aspects between points, which promote struggle, conflict and crisis.  The first is the most obviously applicable to the situation, a square between Mars (27 Leo), ruling the military, including the National Guard, and Uranus (28 Taurus), ruling protest and dissent, including actual insurrection or rebellion.  Under this configuration, tensions run high, violence is likely, situations escalate quickly out of control, and the unexpected, even shocking, can occur.

The effect is exacerbated here by how this transit pattern connects to Donald Trump’s birth chart.  Mars is currently returning to its natal place (26 Leo), as well as conjoined Donald Trump’s natal Ascendant (29 Leo), reinforcing inherent patterns of aggression and how conflict is approached or resolved; while Uranus is pumping agitated, live-wire, febrile energies into these same points, evoking precipitate (Uranus) action (Mars) and bitter (Mars) controversy (Uranus).  There’s also a direct connection to Donald Trump in real time, with transit asteroid Donn (22 Taurus) conjoined Uranus and squared Mars, making him personally part and parcel of the configuration, and further aggravating his innate tendency to go to extremes (born with Sun conjunct Uranus).

Trump’s natal asteroid America also here (27 Leo), combined with Mars and the Ascendant, promotes the viewpoint, common to roughly half of the US population, that Trump is the country’s (America) champion (Mars), seeing him (Ascendant) as a Strong Man (Mars), a public image (Ascendant) Trump is always eager to promote.  In the present context, it suggests that whatever Trump’s natal issues are regarding this combination is being widened to a national stage (America), in ways which are erratic and sensationalist (both Uranus), and result in conflict (Mars).  This forms the backdrop of the rising conflict in LA.

The second square is perhaps more related to motivation and outcome.  A conjunction of Saturn (0 Aries) and Neptune (1 Aries) is about to be squared exactly by Jupiter (29 Gemini), suggesting a fraud or deception (Neptune) perpetrated by a head-of-state (Saturn), which is politically motivated (Jupiter).   The motivation for this unwonted escalation (Jupiter, which increases whatever it touches) of the tensions in LA may indeed be distraction (also Neptune), a feature of the Trump administration, which ceaselessly attempts to divert Americans from the darker aspects of its agenda or embarrassing scandals by raising fresh controversies to displace them in the public mind.  In this case, the distraction is likely an attempt to pull focus from the spectacular implosion of the Donald Trump/Elon Musk partnership which emerged this week, after Musk exited the administration with parting shots against the fiscal recklessness of Trump’s “Big, Beautiful Bill” and aspersions of the President himself.  Complicating the situation are Mercury (27 Gemini), asteroids Washingtonia (29 Gemini) and Icarus (2 Cancer). and dwarf planet Chaos (3 Cancer), all conjoined Jupiter, which suggests that the decisions (Mercury) made by the federal government (Washingtonia) are indeed political (Jupiter), as well as rash and reckless, heedless of the consequences (Icarus), and may result in increased (Jupiter) turmoil or anarchy (Chaos).

Further clarification of the venue for this clash can be gleaned by examining fallout from the recent Solar Eclipse (29 March 2025, 9 Aries), affecting all major players.  California generally, and Los Angeles in particular, has been under the gun of the eclipse by activations to both political entities’ natal Mars placements.  For California (statehood on 9 September 1850) the eclipse fell in opposition (180 degrees) to Mars (11 Libra); for Los Angeles (incorporated 4 April 1850) the eclipse was in square (to 9 Cancer).  Donald Trump’s natal Mercury (8 Cancer) was also eclipsed, and the combination of LA’s Mars with Trump’s Mercury tends to produce harsh, angry (Mars) rhetoric (Mercury) directed toward the City of Angels, exacerbated now by the eclipse activation, which can ensue up to three months before the cosmic event, and extend up to six months after.  Mars also rules fires, and the Los Angeles region was subjected to massive wildfire damage in January 2025, prior to the Solar Eclipse, but within its window.  Los Angeles’ Sun (14 Aries) and Saturn (11 Aries) were also activated by conjunction with the eclipse, perhaps highlighting potential authoritarian (Saturn) measures taken against the community (Sun), also depicting the vast loss and hardship (Saturn) from the wildfires.

Planetary stations (critical turning points in celestial cycles) and asteroid placements also play a part.  Asteroids Nemesis (15 Libra) and Whitehouse (24 Libra) both came to station as the drama unfolded, on June 5th and 7th respectively.  Nemesis signifies an opponent or enemy, as well as being noted as the bringer of ruin and destruction, while Whitehouse operates as a cosmic stand-in for the US presidency.  Although unaspected by degree, the circumstance of coming to station in temporal proximity creates a linkage.

In addition, asteroids Gavini (29 Capricorn) and Angelina (26 Aquarius) have, or will, come to station in the surrounding weeks, indicating pivotal changes are in the works, as these energies are in flux.  Gavini in this context represents Gavin Newsom, California’s governor, a vocal opponent of the Guard deployment, while Angelina represents LA itself, whose citizens are known as “Angelinos.”  Note that Angelina forms stressful aspects to both Donn/Uranus and Mars, funneling its energies directly into that tense, conflict-prone square. Gavin Newsom is especially vulnerable here, with Gavini (variation of his first name) conjoined Pluto (3 Aquarius), and asteroid Newsome (alternate spelling of his surname) opposed (from 4 Leo), making him susceptible to power plays, manipulation, efforts at control, and criminal activity (all in Pluto’s bailiwick), even potentially extending to mortality (with Pluto the modern lord of death).

Finally, the Sun had a role to play in highlighting the situation.  Currently in mid-Gemini (17 degrees) the transit Sun is conjoined by transit asteroid America (16 Gemini), affording a period where all eyes globally are trained on the US, for a variety of reasons.  From this vantage point the Sun is interacting with the birth Suns of both Los Angeles (by sextile (60 degrees) to 14 Aries) and California (by square to 16 Virgo), as well as conjoined California’s natal asteroid California (19 Gemini), pulling additional focus (Sun) to these communities.
