Australia Votes: Upside Down, Down Under
By Alex Miller
Aussies went to the polls on Saturday, 3 May 2025, with Blokes and Sheilas expressing their governing preferences. In a shocking reversal of polling, the incumbent Labor Party won a landslide victory, increasing its majority in a race that was considered at best a slight advantage for progressives, at worst a hung parliament, with no one able to from a government. Sitting Prime Minister Anthony Albanese retains his office, while conservative opposition leader Peter Dutton not only failed to find a mandate to govern, he also lost his own seat in the legislature, in an eerie echo of the Canadian election results earlier that week.
Australia’s electoral timing was fully endorsed by the cosmos, which granted a conjunction of Mercury (18 Aries), ruling the election process, with asteroid Australia (14 Aries), trumpeting where the vote (Mercury) would take place (Australia). A precise semisquare (45 degrees) between Saturn (28 Pisces), denoting the government, and the Sun (13 Taurus) showed the focus (Sun) of the day on choosing a head-of-state (Saturn).
Australians’ stunning support for Anthony Albanese’s continuation as Prime Minister is reflected by an exact conjunction (at 16 Aries) of asteroids Yes and Antonia (feminine version of Anthony, closest asteroid match), also conjoined Mercury and asteroid Australia. The Yes/Antonia pairing underscores an enthusiasm (Yes) for Albanese (Antonia) among Aussies (Australia) which pre-election polling (Mercury) failed to register.
Peter Dutton’s defeat is also written in the stars, with asteroid Peter enmeshed in a variety of negative celestial entanglements. Peter (12 Sagittarius) appears on the fulcrum of a powerful and challenging pattern called a T-Square, comprised of two points in opposition (180 degrees), each squared (90 degrees) a third. In this instance, the opposing points are asteroids Achilles (5 Virgo), which showcases weaknesses and vulnerabilities (as in the Achilles Heel), and Damocles (7 Pisces), indicating a doom or peril hanging unseen overhead (as in the Sword of Damocles), with these energies focused on Peter at the fulcrum.
As well, Peter is sextile asteroid Nemesis (17 Libra), a point noted for bringing ruin or throwing up roadblocks to progress or ambition; and semisquare asteroid NOT (0 Aquarius), which acts as a general disqualifier or symbol of negation. This type of cosmic pile-on clearly signaled trouble ahead.
