Revolution in Nepal

September 22, 2025

By Alex Miller

The September 7th Lunar Eclipse in Pisces kicked off with a literal bang in the Himalayan nation of Nepal, as masses of young people (half the population is under 40) took to the streets on the following day to protest government corruption, economic inequality, and a social media ban.  The protests escalated into rioting which damaged the Parliament building, and the government’s reaction was harsh and bloody, with some 70 persons killed and another 2100 wounded.  But the protestors persisted, and within 48 hours Prime Minister Sharma Oli had resigned and fled the country.  An interim government has been established, headed by Sushila Karki, the country’s first female Chief Justice, and now its first female head of state.

The chart for the start of the uprising on 8 September 2025 shows the Sun (16 Virgo) still reverberating with the effects of the prior day’s eclipse of the Moon (at 15 Pisces).  With the Sun are Mercury (12 Virgo), denoting students, young people and newsworthy events, as well as asteroids Young (15 Virgo) and Justitia (exact with the Sun at 16 Virgo).  Young doubles down on the sense of a focus (Sun) on youth (Young), while Justitia, named for the Roman goddess of justice, is essentially what the protestors were seeking, as well as an allusion to soon-to-be-Prime-Minister, Chief Justice Karki.

A wide conjunction of Mars (21 Libra) with asteroid Themis (11 Libra) suggests fighting (Mars) for justice (Themis, named for Justitia’s Greek counterpart).  A Yod pattern (1) is formed, a configuration also known as a Finger of Destiny, with Uranus (1 Gemini) at its Apex, the planet associated with rebellion and revolution.  At its base are asteroids Nemesis (3 Scorpio), noted as the bringer of ruin and destruction, but also focused on punishing abuses; and Juvenalis (3 Capricorn), the Latin word for “youthful” or “young,” identifying young people as the source of the government’s collapse.

Prime Minister Sharma Oli is represented by asteroid Sharma (24 Capricorn), which is embedded at station (2), turning direct just six days before the uprising began.  Celestial bodies at station indicate literal or metaphoric “turning points,” certainly the case here for Sharma Oli, driven from office and fleeing the country within 48 hours.

Nepal’s revolution of 2006 eliminated the monarchy, but it wasn’t until two years after that a federal republic was declared (3).  This, in turn, was amended by the adoption of a constitution in 2015 (4).  Trouble on the horizon was foretold in both charts, with the Lunar Eclipse (15 Pisces) squared (90 degrees) to asteroid Kathmandu (18 Sagittarius), named for Nepal’s capital, in the founding chart, also highlighting asteroids Young (17 Cancer) by trine (120 degrees) and Mars (10 Leo) with Themis (12 Leo) by inconjunct (150 degrees).  Mars represents violence, and has associations with rebellion in that context; this much closer combination of Mars and Themis is reflected in the broader union of this same pair at the uprising, and underscores that foundationally, the Nepalese people are focused on fighting for justice.

In the Constitution chart, the eclipse squares Themis (19 Sagittarius), also activating Pluto (12 Capricorn), ruling major transformation, death and rebirth, and inconjunct Mercury (15 Libra), again a nod to the youth of the protestors.

In all three charts, we see eclipse pressure applied with an emphasis on youth (Mercury, Young, Juvenalis) and justice (Justitia, Themis). Right on cue, young people rose up to redress grievances they deemed just.

Notes: (1) A Yod is formed from two planets in sextile at the base, both inconjunct a third planet on the apex; it is often associated with destiny or karma.

(2) Stations are periods when, from our perspective on Earth, a planet appears to slow its movement, come to a standstill, and reverse course.  This is an optical illusion created by the triangulation between the sun, Earth, and any third celestial body; astrologically, it represents a focusing of the energies associated with that point, and often coincides with major life events or a radical recalibration of how that point has functioned previously.

(3) Nepal declared a federal republic 2 May 2008

(4) Nepal Constitution adopted 20 September 2015
