Kamala and the planets

August 25, 2024

By Alex Miller

Politicos and pundits alike have been gobsmacked by the stunning turnaround in American presidential politics since Joe Biden withdrew from the race and handed off the fight to his Vice President, Kamala Harris. The surge in support for Harris has been phenomenal, imbuing her candidacy with energy, excitement and enthusiasm, a vibe that has been described as “electric.”

Whence this transformation? When astrologers hear energy-related keywords like those used above, our ears prick up, and we realize we need look no further than the antics of Uranus, that cosmic cattle prod, in connection with some key asteroids in Harris’ chart and the current transit sky.

The conjunction of Mars and Uranus which occurred on July 15th promised to provide some shocks and upsets, possible controversy or volatility (all Uranian attributes), which it did, but it delivered much more: pure energy. Mars traditionally represents energy, and Uranus acts in some ways as a supercharged Mars, so bringing these two together in the sky was bound to create some fireworks, for good or ill.

For some in the race, the downside of Mars with Uranus was experienced (Trump was slightly wounded in an assassination attempt, Joe Biden withdrew from the race). But Kamala Harris has only reaped the upside. For her, the Mars/Uranus conjunction fell atop her natal Jupiter, the planet representing good luck, positive outcomes and expansion, which also rules politics. Moreover, the conjunction opposed her natal asteroid Whitehouse! Although named for David Whitehouse, a BBC science editor, the point works reliably as an indicator of the Oval Office and the US presidency, with its official residence known as the White House. Having Mars and Uranus tag-teaming her natal Whitehouse, with a Jovian boost, propelled Harris into the fast lane of presidential politics in the blink of an eye.

Never one to do things by halves, the cosmos obliged and underscored its theme by placing asteroid Harris in conjunction with the Mars/Uranus pairing in real time as well. Again, named for American planetary scientist Alan W. Harris, the point doesn’t play favorites, but willingly steps in whenever any Harris is in the news and needing a celestial referent.

Having the dynamic duo of Mars and Uranus emitting jet fuel, not just for her birth chart’s natural affinity for a White House run, but also focused on her asteroid referent in the daily sky, has led directly to the incredible outpouring of enthusiasm, excitement and energy which has accrued to Harris and her campaign in recent weeks.

And the energy hasn’t stopped there. On August 19th, the day the DNC convened, a Full Moon showed the Sun in exact conjunction with asteroid Whitehouse, setting the stage for the convention’s theme, with the Moon exactly conjoined the US natal Moon, representing its people, and Uranus midway between them (in a dynamic pattern known as a T-Square), still conjoined asteroid Harris, evoking a supercharged nomination process that was also inventive and unique (two more Uranian characteristics).

But will it last? To that question, the cosmos issues a resounding “yes”! Mars is moving on, but Uranus and Harris remain locked in resonant conjunction from late June 2024 through early April 2025, right through the November election and the inauguration of the next US president in January, affording an extended period of excitement and enthusiasm centered on Kamala Harris. Which may well lead to Americans addressing a “Madam President” for the first time in their history.
