Epstein Files Fallout:  Scandinavian Edition

On Background:  The recent release on January 30^th of some 3 million documents from the Jeffrey Epstein files has caused turmoil on both sides of the pond, though there doesn’t seem to be any accountability forthcoming in the US.  In Europe, however, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer faces calls to resign as further links come to light between the noted sex offender and Peter Mandelson, the man Starmer named as US Ambassador, who stepped down last year in the wake of the initial scandal.  As well, an investigation may be in the offing into possible criminal conduct related to information given to Epstein by the Royal formerly known as Prince, now simply Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, King Charles III’s disgraced brother. 

In Poland the government is investigating whether Epstein may have trafficked or abused Polish women, girls or children, and possible links to Russian Intelligence by the convicted sex offender which could threaten national security.  But perhaps the most surprising fallout from this latest release affects a pair of princesses, members of the Norwegian and Swedish royal families.

As female, the onus of proving themselves innocent of sexual predation isn’t the issue here, but rather, a too-free email correspondence with Epstein, who famously hobnobbed with everyone of social substance on at least two continents.  The wife of Norway’s Crown Prince Haakon, Mette-Marit, was exceptionally lax in this regard, who in several exchanges in 2012, four years after his initial arrest for sex crimes, refers to Epstein as a “sweetheart” and “soft hearted.”  In another 2012 email exchange, she calls Epstein “very charming,” while adding: “Is it inappropriate for a mother to suggest two naked women carrying a surfboard for my 15 yr old sons wallpaper ?”  (Short answer:  yes, particularly since that son is now on trial for rape himself.)

Mette-Marit has acknowledged error, in the form of showing “poor judgment” over her relationship with Epstein but said, quite rightly, that he was “solely responsible for his actions.”  The Crown Princess continued:  “I must take responsibility for not having investigated Epstein’s background more thoroughly, and for not realizing sooner what kind of person he was. I deeply regret this, and it is a responsibility I must bear.”

On the other side of the Scandinavia Peninsula, Princess Sofia of Sweden has been discomfited by the Epstein files release as well.  The wife of Carl Philip, Duke of Varmland (only son of King Carl XVI, but superseded in the succession by his elder sister Victoria, after Sweden adopted strict primogeniture in 1980), Sofia isn’t to be tarred with the same brush as Mette-Marit.  Her connections to Epstein stem from 2005, a decade before her marriage into royalty, when she was an aspiring model and actress in New York and received invitations to visit his private island, three years before Epstein’s original arrest exposed him for what he was.  Sofia characterizes the association as casual and social, and so far, no emails have surfaced to undermine her assertion that she declined his advances.  Her statement to the press reads in part, “Now that I have read about the horrific crimes he subjected young women to, I’m so grateful that I’ve had nothing to do with him since those few occasions in my 20s. My thoughts go out to all the victims, and I hope there is justice in this.”

The Lede:  The celestial backdrop for the release of this enormous tranche of data on January 30^th is a conjunction of Pluto, Mars and the Sun (at 3, 5 and 10 Aquarius).  Pluto relates to criminal conduct and scandal, Mars rules sexual activity, and the Sun brings focus, surely an apt assemblage for the Epstein Files story.

In Brief:  Mercury exactly conjunct Venus (both at 16 Aquarius) indicates news and records (both Mercury) related to, involving, or affecting females (Venus; obviously, this also indicates the victims).  The pair is closely inconjunct (150 degrees) Jupiter (17 Cancer), ruling royalty, celebrity and fame; and semisquare (45 degrees) the Saturn (28 Pisces)/Neptune (0 Aries) conjunction, suggesting some form of censure, punishment or criticism (all Saturn) for poor judgment (Neptune).

As well, Uranus (27 Taurus), promoter of shock value, also concerned with controversy and socially unacceptable behaviors, is just four days from its powerful station (1) on February 3^rd, in sextile (60 degrees) to Saturn/Neptune and sesquiquadrate (135 degrees) the Sun.

Deep Dive:  The stage for the release of more of the Jeffrey Epstein files was set by the station of asteroid Geoffroy (11 Libra), an alternate spelling of his first name, on January 22^nd, which heralded a major turning point (station) for matters related to him.  This opposes (180 degrees) asteroid Epstein (4 Aries), which conjoins that Saturn/Neptune duo, helping to define the focus of the poor judgment and subsequent criticism.

The US Justice Department’s connection to the story is seen in two guises:  as asteroid Justitia (16 Scorpio), named for the Roman goddess of justice, which is exactly squared (90 degrees) the Mercury/Venus conjunction; and asteroid Themis (5 Sagittarius), named for her Greek precursor, which conjoins asteroid Prinz (9 Sagittarius), German for “prince,” thus bringing in the connection to royalty being affected by the Justice Department’s disclosures.

Which royal families in particular might be exposed is seen in a startling conjunction of asteroids Sverige (20 Aquarius), Swedish for “Sweden,” and Norge (21 Aquarius), Norwegian for “Norway,” which conjoins Mercury/Venus, further identifying the emails (Mercury) of female members (Venus) as up for review.

As one might expect, given her deeper involvement, Crown Princess Mette-Marit is most prominent on the day, as asteroid Mette (0 Scorpio), squaring (90 degrees) the Pluto/Mars/Sun grouping, putting her at the center of the story.  In contrast, asteroid Sophia (21 Capricorn), alternate spelling of Sofia, resides in serene semi-isolation, opposed Jupiter, which often provides positive outcomes.  Indeed, Swedish pundits speculate that her forthrightness in dealing with this issue may actually redound to her benefit in future.

Nevertheless, natal placements for Epstein markers in both women’s birth charts indicate a potential to become a notable influence on their biographies.  Just as asteroid Geoffroy was at station for the files’ release, so, too, was it stationary at Princess Sofia’s birth (2).  Asteroid Geoffroy (15 Leo) is tightly trine (120 degrees) her Sun (14 Sagittarius); squared natal Saturn (18 Scorpio), prompting criticism; and opposed Mars (15 Aquarius) with TNO Salacia (16 Aquarius) and asteroid Justitia (21 Aquarius).  Mars again is sexuality, Salacia suggests something titillating or scandalous (the root of our word “salacious”), and Justitia refers to the US Justice Department being involved.  As well, Sofia’s natal asteroid Epstein (27 Taurus) is exactly where Uranus made its station, a cosmic jolt which certainly upset her world.

Crown Princess Mette-Marit (3) doesn’t get off so lightly.  For her, the stationary point is asteroid Epstein (15 Aries), opposing Uranus (20 Libra) in a T-Square (4) with asteroid Nemesis (22 Cancer).  Sofia’s Geoffroy has a broader application, as a first name, than Mette’s Epstein, which as a surname, more narrowly focuses its effects in singling out individuals of prominence in the biography.  The natal Uranus connection virtually guarantees controversy and a shock to the system, while Nemesis refers to ruin and destruction, showing Epstein as an inimical presence in her life.  Her Epstein connection is unlikely to go quite so far as ruin for Mette-Marit, but her reputation has been further eroded by this instance, particularly coming as it does in the middle of her son’s rape trial.

Notes:  (1) Stations are periods when, from our perspective on Earth, a planet appears to slow its movement, come to a standstill, and reverse course.  This is an optical illusion created by the triangulation between the sun, Earth, and any third celestial body; astrologically, it represents a focusing of the energies associated with that point, and often coincides with major life events or a radical recalibration of how that point has functioned previously.
