Uranus Retrograde Heralds Major A.I. Rethink

Just as Uranus, ruler of technology and all things futuristic, came to its retrograde station on September 10^th, all hell broke loose in response to the resignation of Jacob Coxon, a researcher at A.I. forefront company Anthropic, announced on X two days prior.  Coxon, a 27-year-old researcher former OpenAI employee who had only worked for Anthropic for a few months, blew the whistle on exposing senior A.I. industry leaders’ concerns that the technology’s rapid, rampant acceleration could pose a significant threat to humanity, with an estimated 10% chance of destroying human life within the decade.

Previously, the grassroots opposition to the changes A.I. brings were focused on possible job loss, and the negative impact of the burgeoning data centers needed to process the technology, which utilize vast amounts of energy and water and threaten rural communities.  Coxon’s revelations threw the incipient A.I. panic into hyperdrive.  Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei responded on the day of Uranus’ station, essentially endorsing Coxon’s assertions, and issuing a plea that the US federal government devise industry-wide curbs on A.I., including a possible pause in development.

At the same time, New York Times reporting revealed that the rogue A.I. agent’s attack on Hugging Face in July was not an isolated incident, but rather, just the tip of the iceberg, sparking fears that A.I. tech is no longer completely under human control.   Swarms of A.I. agents are escaping from their containers, conspiring with each other in secret, colluding to covering their tracks, cheating on tests, falsifying data and attacking other computers.

As stated above, Uranus rules technology, and a retrograde of the planet provides an opportunity to go back into the areas it governs, to rethink, reassess, and take corrective measures.  Uranus also rules shocks, surprises, revelations, controversy and going to extremes.  Events which surface at the time of the station, when the planet appears to stop and reverse motion, offer clues to the issues that will dominate during the retrograde period.  In this case, that period of reappraisal extends for five months, until early February 2027.

As Uranus came to its station (1), Mercury, the planet of deliberation, discussion and decision-making, entered Libra, completing a Grand Trine Kite pattern (2) with Uranus (5 Gemini) and Pluto (3 Aquarius), while opposed (180 degrees) Neptune (3 Aries).  Pluto, known as the modern lord of death, governs transition and transformation of all types, while Neptune resonates to deception, misdirection, and subterfuge.  Put them all together, and it’s no surprise we’re having discussions (Mercury) about advanced technologies (Uranus), based on information (Mercury) about A.I. (Uranus) covert ops (Neptune) and the possibility of the destruction (Pluto) of humanity.

Whistleblower Jacob Coxon is highlighted for the timeframe, with asteroid Cox (12 Gemini), for Coxon, squared (90 degrees) the Sun (17 Virgo) and asteroid Jacoby (21 Capricorn), closest to Jacob, in trine (120 degrees), and also embedded at station.  This places a bright spotlight (Sun) on Jacob (Jacoby) Coxon (Cox) at a critical turning point (station) for himself and all of humanity.  A second Grand Trine Kite incorporating the Sun and Jacoby with asteroid Intel (19 Taurus) and Mars (19 Cancer) sets up Cox (Jacoby) as the champion (Mars) of the reassessment of Artificial Intelligence (Intel), prompting a conversation that is long overdue, but which gains massive public attention just as Uranus makes its station.

Notes:  (1) Stations are periods when, from our perspective on Earth, a planet appears to slow its movement, come to a standstill, and reverse course.  This is an optical illusion created by the triangulation between the sun, Earth, and any third celestial body; astrologically, it represents a focusing of the energies associated with that point, and often coincides with major life events or a radical recalibration of how that point has functioned previously.

(2) A Grand Trine is a pattern comprised of three or more points, all equidistant from each other by 120 degrees.  It denotes special gifts or opportunities, but may need a “trigger” in the form of a transit to activate its potential.  A Kite is a special type of Grand Trine, with one or more points opposing one of the three primary Grand Trine points.  The point in opposition is termed the “String,” and guides the operation and manifestation of the Kite itself.
